i was looking for a place to accommodate a friend in terms of distance to a location and ease of parking. Plancha is the sister restaurant to Salumi in Massapequa Long Island. It is known for fantastic tapas outside of Manhattan. They have ome differences in the menu but both are awesome. I bet these 2 places would beat most Manhattan establishments. In fact, if you live in Queens or Long Island, it would not be worth the trip to Manhattan with a Plancha close by!
Needed to order quickly and when I walked in, i was greeted by a very casually dressed guy names Austin behind the bar. He had returned recently from Barcelona like i did. Audtin and I were on the same page! We talked about Barcelona region for the Jamin Iberica and the wines. He put together a Jamon Iberica board with crispy bread, salted almonds, small slithers of onion and sun dried tomatoes. All i know is that everything melted in my mouth. I asked him to pair it with a wine of his own choosing. Austin chose a Tempranillo wine that was so perfect in matching the mest board. Ordered the blistered shoshito peppers. Personally for me they were good, and it came with a mayo type dip. I was not thrilled about the dip, but peppers were nice! I also Asked Austin to bring a small cheese board. One i can toast some goat cheese, which was a solid piece and the other reminded me of a type of blue cheese with a sweet balsamic drizzle and raisins and guave pieces.
Listen, i do not know what was on the menu that I ordered. I trusted Austin's expertise and he hit it everytime!!! Due to the fast choice and Austin's very friendly and outgoing personality, i would come here in a heartbeat. Btw, as I am paying, there was an influx of cuatomers coming in. Glad I picked the right...
Read moreI’ve been here about 4 times, so I thought it was about time to write a review! This is a very cute place right in a popular area of Garden City with quite a few restaurants and things to do around the area. The service is amazing! I’ve had the pleasure of having the same waiter, Joseph, at least 3 times. He always greets us with a smile and seats us right away. He has made several suggestions as far as food and wine, and we have even trusted him twice to make a meat and cheese board that he thought we would like! He did not disappoint! He is very knowledgeable on the wines that are served here and has sold my husband and I on the Tempernillos that are served here. They let you taste the wines before committing, which is very reminiscent of many places we’ve been to in Europe. As far as the food, I love the melted raclette that comes on a piece of their delicious, crunchy bread. Their fourme d’ambert and tomme de savoie give a little something extra, as they come with small grapes, and dried fruit to be paired with the cheeses... the sweet and the salty... so good! Although I am not sure which comes with which cheese, I always order these 3 cheeses every time thanks to Joseph’s suggestion! The speck and prosciutto go very well with these two. My husband had the bone marrow which he said was the best he’s ever had! We also had the patatas bravas (one of my favorites) and the scallops which were cooked to perfection. This place reminds us of traveling through Europe in the small tapas places in Barcelona, France, and even Italy! If you want a little piece of Europe in the heart of Garden City, come here to experience their cuisine! Great service and great food! So glad my friend introduced me...
Read moreWe just returned home from brunch at this restaurant. While the food was good, I could NEVER recommend this place for the following reasons: 1) I have an allergy to cheese and requested to have the eggs that are topped with "grated truffle cheese" minus the cheese. I was told that I couldn't be accommodated - no substitutions. OK, I said - I'll just have the salad minus nuts -- surely they could do that. Nope! I was told again - sorry we can only serve the food EXACTLY as it says on the menu. OK, I said - how about just a fried egg? Nope - even though fried eggs are in several dishes, since it isn't specifically a dish on the menu - no dice. Then the waitress was suggested that I have the bacon and egg sandwich with comes with -- CHEESE! I said, "can you leave off the cheese?" Nope. So I said, never mind - I won't have anything. We ordered the steak and eggs platter for the table. A few fried eggs came on it, so I ate those. However, the platters came minus the steak knives. While not impossible to cut steak with a butter knife - it isn't easy. Our waitress was inattentive to say the least. I asked for another iced tea and she never returned. About 10 minutes later I asked someone else for one and was told they needed to brew a new batch. I'm ok with that but it would have been nice to know (I said forget it). Additionally, she had to be asked several times for sweetener, forgot to bring other drinks that were ordered and was just absent for most of our meal. I had to ask someone else for the check. He, btw, was very attentive even though he clearly had a different job. We eat out 4-5 times a week. We will...
