Speak easy Tapas Bar — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

I normally don’t write reviews on restaurants, but Speakeasy blew me away with every aspect of what to expect from a great restaurant.

1. Service - We were a party of 9, that wanted to sit at the bar and order apps and drinks. We were greeted by Cody, the bartender, and Frank, the owner/manager. Both were outgoing, and personable. Their beers are provided by South Shore brewery, which is a personal favorite of mine. Their signature cocktails were all crafted by Frank, and are works of art. My group ordered a few of the signature cocktails, each one more impressive than the other.

Food - We didn’t order any of the main dishes, but rather an array of appetizers. Everything was well seasoned and delicious. My favorite was the whipped ricotta and pita. Picture the best version of a white slice from a pizzeria you have ever had. The mussels were great, the broth they were cooked in was delicate, flavorful and not overpowering. We also had the bacon wrapped dates, rice balls, and potatoes. I didn’t eat them, but everyone in the group said that they were delicious.

Atmosphere - The bar was great, not too big, not too small. Bathrooms were spotless, which is a telltale sign that the staff cares about the place. There were groups in the dining area ranging from families with kids, to people celebrating birthdays. Everyone looked like they were having a great time. Every member of the staff was polite, and very accommodating. They have a cool Photo Booth type wall near the bathrooms where you can take pictures with your friends or family.

I look forward to frequenting here for brunch and date nights...

Speakeasy Tapas is an absolute standout. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the intention behind every detail—and that’s all thanks to Frank. His passion for this place radiates through everything: the ambiance, the drinks, the food, and especially the hospitality.

The crafted cocktails were exceptional—not just tasty, but beautifully presented and thoughtfully balanced. You can tell there’s real care in the process, not just flair. The food? Next-level. Every plate was a visual delight and delicious! Each dish felt curated and precise. It’s clear the kitchen takes as much pride in presentation as it does in taste.

What really made the night special, though, was the team. The hospitality was warm and attentive without being overbearing. You felt genuinely cared for—as if you were being welcomed into someone’s home, not just another restaurant.

Hands down the BEST cocktail bar we’ve found on Long Island. My husband and I tried out this spot in Saturday and were truly impressed by the staff and drinks. We were greeted as if we were regulars and Jeff the bartender/mixologist was fantastic. The drinks were perfection! Not only were they delicious but they looked just as impressive. The owner Frank was very friendly and so personable. He told us how he is cultivating a craft cocktail menu by distilling his own flavor profiles. All the drinks on the menu were items he worked specifically picked. He had unique brands of liquor we hadn’t tried before and cocktails I haven’t seen on other menus. He did have some generic items and they would make anything you wanted but I appreciated the variety this place offered.
