Stopped in for the first time, take out order for two. This review is about the food and prices. The staff were friendly and helpful, four stars for staff. They have an outdoor seating area which seemed relaxed and pleasant.
Unfortunately DJ's clam shack is overpriced and average quality food. The pictures below are taken of the food as-is, before being touched.
The shrimp comes with either coleslaw or regular fries for $14+ tax. The coleslaw option is apparently a small side to-go condiment cup, like one you would get at a diner. It is also placed on top of the shrimp inside the box so it is very warm- if you like warm coleslaw you might like this style. The fried shrimp was completely unseasoned, tasted only like the fried breading. Not terrible, not worth $14+.
The fried fish fingers come with the same coleslaw or fries, with five 'fingers' for $14+ tax. For this one, the seasoning was very salty and didn't taste like much else. Again, not terrible but not great for $14+ for five thin strips.
I wanted to try DJ's basic items before trying their pricer lobster items sold at MP but unfortunately, I don't think...
Read moreOverall I thought DJs was just ok. Not sure if I would go back, especially for what everything cost.
Vibe: The vibe is casual, and almost a bit cold. We sat outside, which was nice, but it is on a busy road. Free parking in the back is a plus.
Service: This was the highlight. The staff was super friendly and helpful.
Food: The food in my opinion was hit and miss. I didn't think there was anything so fabulous that I had to go back and have. The onion rings were the best part and I'd give them a solid 4. ($6.00) The chipotle sauce was a nice compliment to the rings.
I'd give the Ipswich Clams basket a 3. ($29.00) The breading on the clams was nice and light, but we had several clams with sand grit. The french fries were ok, a bit cold, bland and not crispy. The coleslaw was the best part of the basket.
And finally I'd give the Cold Lobster Roll a 3 as well.($24.00) It was a bit heavy on the mayonnaise and I felt was loaded with the rubbery lobster claw tips.
Was it horrible, no. Expensive, yes. Would I go back,...
Read moreOverall did not have a good experience here at all. The place is very cute and I liked the indoor/ outdoor area. Menu had a lot on it and you definitely have your options. Staff was friendly but that soon ended when we placed our order. We ordered the clam chowder, I ordered the Ipswich clams and my mom wanted the lobster empanada. Mine came with fries and cole slaw and the menu specifically says that the lobster empanada comes with fries or coleslaw. The girls behind the counter insisted it didn’t! It blatantly said it right on the menu so how can you deny it? If that’s the case then take it off the menu! Now having spent a nice weekend in Boston/ cape cod/ Connecticut last weekend, I had high expectations for the food. The clam chowder was just okay. Lobster empanada barely had any lobster in it. Fries were good and coleslaw was good but the clams…… not good. They were bitter, sandy and really gross compared to the ones I’ve had in New England. I wouldn’t go back...
