Hoping there is a good explanation for this as I’ve always enjoyed the food but this was unacceptable. We were in today presumably as they were close to closing (there was barely anything left on the shelves - we were told no food would be heated and there was no coffee). We decided to sit outside and eat what we bought. An older woman employee approached my husband and mother in law and told them that she had to close the gates and therefore they had to go (I was just approaching from Southdown because again they had no coffee when we made our food purchase). She apologized but sort of rushed us off of the outdoor seating area including my mother in law who can barely walk. I asked her to please be patient as she can barely get up on her own and she waited. There happened to be a table at Southdown so we sat in there and finished our snacks and coffee. When we came out I was surprised to see a lovely older couple sitting at the table that we were rushed out of 30 mins earlier and no gate closed. Are other people of color being treated this way here? I would hate to think that way but I’m hoping the business will respond with a perfectly reasonable explanation for why this non POC elderly couple were allowed to sit and enjoy the food not even purchased at Duck Island but we were not. It felt pretty...
Read moreThey weren't kidding when they say Bread Company. There is a huge selection of breads, cookies, sweets and savory items. I got a ham, egg and cheese brioche, a kouign-amann and a single serve onion sourdough bread that had a unique name. The whole display is great and every item was tempting. First up was the brioche. I couldn't wait to get home, so I tried it in the car. The brioche was so soft and tasted great. As I devoured, I was pleasantly surprised to see a runny egg hidden inside the brioche. This was breakfast, not a snack. The combination of egg, brioche, cheese and ham was just irresistible. I was a little skeptical about the kouign-amann and I was right, it was just a flaky crust coated with hardened sugar. It was dry too. I would skip it next time. The final bite was the awesome onion sourdough roll. I had this in the evening, cut it in half, smeared some Irish butter, Indian cut mango pickle and took a bite. The sourdough was perfect. I was fortunate to get inside without much waiting and the staff did a good job of keeping the line...
Read moreOne of the if not the best bakery I have been to! A couple of weeks ago my sister got the focaccia bread from here for a family party and it was some of the best I’ve ever had. Since then we have been to Duck Island several times. We typically get the bread for parties or as an appetizer and it goes immediately! We have also gotten their chocolate chip cookies and brownies, both of which I highly recommend. Well usually throw them in the oven for 3/4 min to heat them up a little. They have dozens of other delicious looking baked goods but we haven’t had a chance to try them out yet. Would...
