R & S Meat Market — Local services in Town of Huntington

I've overlooked this shop for years in my trips to Southdown Coffee. I happened to be pulling into the parking lot to get jolted up with caffeine when I noticed this shop for the first time.

I went in to grab some sort of meat to grill, as I was in the early days of my first whole30. It happened to be the morning of my fiance's mom's birthday. Ironically, she is a vegan...but I still left there with a complete gift for her.

This meat shop also contains an adorable section of home goods and perfect gift items. All the items they carry are sourced either locally or from small businesses that the owner (I think?) and his wife have discovered in their travels and have shipped in to sell. Kerry came over as soon as she saw me looking at the items, collecting things to buy as I marveled at the possibilities. From unique candles, to quality soaps, to creative dishware and dishtowels, I was in my glory. This was solving all my "we didn't get a gift yet because we do everything last minute" woes...things I didn't plan to do until well after the Southdown coffee.

Kerry was amazing. She described why she brings in goods from each small business. She was incredibly helpful and very knowledgeable and personable. She, and the men working behind the meat counter, knew the name of every customer who walked through the door. Very home town feel.

They also sell coconut wraps. Totally whole30. And it was right as I had begun craving grains. I can't wait to try them.

Ended up going into a meat shop and leaving with household gifts for a vegan. Go figure. Oh, of course I bought some Balsam soaps that I hope I remember I own when next Christmas rolls around. And adorable ceramic "tomato cartons" to put them in. #adulting #iammymom

This place is such an asset to the community! First of all, the meat, prepared foods, and specialty gourmet items they stock are top quality and so delicious. They have a wide and unique array of fun and tasty products, many of which are sourced and produced locally and in small batches. Besides having great products, Keri and Anthony (and their sons!) are hardworking, warm, friendly, and professional. The place is kept spotless and has such lovely and charming decor. I also happen to know that these folks are community minded and always do whatever they can support other local business as well as local educational and charity organizations.
