July 16, 2019 10:54am Order Placed at counter Waitress: Doria
Had brunch, poached eggs on toast. The toast was burnt and dry. I wanted to pour my hot coffee on it to moisten the bread and potatoes, but I restrained myself. Lots of ketchup made it moist enough to eat, but that ruined the taste of the eggs. The hash brown potatoes were hard, under done and could have used more cooking time. The eggs were prepared too hard. The yolk is supposed to be a little runny which is why poached eggs are served on toast. Perhaps I should have specified that I did not want hardboiled eggs? Do I need to send cooking instructions to the kitchen?
One young man and three ladies were observed "working" the counter in the nearly empty restaurant. Doria was my waitress, then she disappeared and later reappeared and no one covered the counter for her. I had to ask for a coffee refill and later to fill my water glass again. If it were possible the food order would have needed to be done again. I didn't have the luxury of waiting for a "do-over". Re-training or replacing the cook may be necessary. Your lunch and dinner menu was not sampled, so this may simply be a small peek at the cook's capabilities and not reflective of the whole menu. High price point balanced against poor preparation and inadequate service equals aggravation and a diminished perception of value. Your other customers may not return with this type of experience or perhaps this is the very first meal you ever served that was very poor. Your other customers were nowhere to be seen at 11:24am. Failing grade for this visit, three stars deducted. I have read the other reviews and it seems you are a good diner. Unfortunatrly I didn't have the pleasure to experience what they enjoyed. To be fair, even the Yankees have a bad day once in a while and I can't ask them for a "do-over" either. If they were a terrible team, then I wouldn't visit them very often. For the money, I expect their best effort. Sweet Hollow Diner did not give their best effort. You are being sent down to the farm team. No yolk intended.
*My visit was at 10:45am until 11:22am, Tuesday, 07/16/19. I took pictures of your desserts at the counter and told your waitress I was writing a review. If she suddenly decided to be more attentive and corrected this problem, you would have earned five stars already.

Read moreThe worst meal at a diner I have ever had. And being a Ny Jew I’ve been to lots of diners !
Turkey burger half The size of the roll and as This as an ihop silver dollar Pancake A skimpy piece of pickle and coleslaw that wouldn’t even fill a shot glass
The other diners hamburger was just as bad with cold hard broccoli
Home fries burnt dry and tasteless like they were on the grill for 3 days
Thankfully my grandsons grilled cheese was good but frankly a blind armless vegan could make a grilled cheese
And we waited 25 minutes for this disaster
We told the waitress and maybe she’d want to adjust the bill. Offer my grandson a sundae. Not a damn thing.
Some small part of my brain forced me to leave a tip even tho I should have been paid.
This place is lucky there isn’t another diner nearby or they would be gone

Read moreWe went last Saturday with my husband and 3 kids for lunch. It was the best, the waitress was really nice to my kids especially my 3yr old. He loved her as well, he got his chicken tenders, fries and vanilla milkshake, my son and daughter got the thing like always, chocolate pancakes and turkey bacon, chocolate shake, my husband got his veggie omelette with potatoes and fresh orange juice and i got my chicken souvlaki with rice, excellent as always. The place was packed but everything was on time, hot and served with a smile. We travel from North Lindenhurst every week to come eat breakfast or lunch here, well worth it. The prices are excellent in my opinion too cheap for what u get. Fresh food always, and the options are endless the way a dinner should be and is. Definitely check them out, you’ll...
