The first thing we noticed after our 1 hour and 20 minute drive is a small sign taped to the door saying "air conditioner temporarily broken". Mind you, it is advertised on their website to have air conditioning. I don't want to say its false advertising but it really is. The fans were pointed towards the entrance and it felt fine at first so we decided to give it a try. This was our first time skating here and really wanted to enjoy. We soon realized less than a half hour in it was way too hot. My boyfriend and I were dripping sweat even when not skating around. As it turns out, they only have 1 fan pointed towards the door and they just move it around making it deceptively cool at the entrance.
First, we wanted to just get some water and thought maybe we can try to enjoy but when they said it costs $2 and no ice we cut it there.
We grabbed our stuff and went to the front to be quickly told there are no refunds and it was outside of their hands. I have nothing against the employees; they were actually very nice. But the management should be ashamed. Apparently we, the customers, have to suffer full price. They should not be allowing anyone in if they won't let them get a refund if they are nearly having heat stroke. I would have been satisfied with even a partial refund since we did stay around a half hour.
EDIT: After a week (closed due to 4th of July), we decided to give them a call back to discuss our day there and we happened to talk to Alyssa. I must say, she is super nice and totally understood everything! We were offered a full refund. If we are ever able to come back, I am sure we would enjoy it much more! I do want to keep my original review since the employees there at that time were unable to solve the issue right away; having us to call back to inquire about...
Read moreI took my three children, 7, 5 and and a 7 month old, to the event at the skate rink. I paid for entrance and skate rental for all. When I was half way around the rink I was approached by a staff saying I couldn’t be in the rink because I had shoes on. When I pointed out other parents were helping their young children skate without skates on, it was said it was because I was wearing a 7 month old on me and that I had to get off.I brought up that I was by myself and my 5 and 7 year old needed support, I received a shoulder shrug and told I had to get off because they made an announcement. I checked with my friend who said they heard no announcement as she and I were directly next to the announcement booth when the staff claimed the announcement was made. I felt upset for my 5 and 7 year old who were trying to learn how to skate and I couldn’t support them as a parent. When I brought this up to the workers at the front about not being able to support my children all because I was carrying an 7 month old on my chest it was just brushed off as oh well it was a safety issue. I was right next to the wall where advanced skaters are not supposed to be and I was not wearing skates so I could support my 5 and 7 year old. When I asked what they do when single parents show up who need to support their children on the rink, they had no answer. For a place who claims to be family friendly, the staff seem to be dismissive and their policies are prejudice against single parents with multiple children. For the amount charged and how I could not support my children and the dismissiveness of the staff, I will not be returning to...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars, I would. I grew up going here in the 90’s. It appears it hasn’t been updated or even maintained since then. I took my son twice in the past month, and I won’t go back. He got sick the next day both times (this is a kid who never ever gets sick, maybe once every 2 years or so). There is no heat. There are people skating with winter coats on and the owner wears a winter hat. It’s obviously not a temporary problem (I suspect the broken AC signs in the summer are also not a temporary problem). I’m all for vintage and character. This is not that. It looks like a trashy dilapidated drug house with missing ceiling tiles, and falling insulation. Speaking of drugs, every time the kitchen door opened, there was a very heavy smell of marijuana. The only person to come out each time was the owners wife and daughter (maybe 9 yrs old?). By the time we left, we were the last people there with only the owners so pretty certain who was doing it. But also…the kitchen? Where they serve food?!? While customers are there? Just no. It’s ridiculously expensive for a craphole.
If they don’t care about turning on the heat, the open ceiling tiles and falling insulation, and letting his wife smoke pot in the kitchen where they make food and while they have customers, I doubt they actually disinfect the railings and surfaces. I’m done, I’ll drive across the river to Wood n Wheel...
