Completely rude and disgusting behavior from the owner! Service was okay, food came out in a timely manner. The atmosphere was very loud and noisy itself because it was a busy Sunday. First and foremost I ordered French toast eggs and bacon, eggs and toast for my 5 year old son. It took about 10 minutes for the food to come out. When I got my French toast, the bread was completely soggy and not fully cooked through. I had to ask for them to remake it. Which the waitress did have them make over very quickly. My son was crying and being a usual 5 year old. So literally right after I received my French toast remake. The owner came over and told me that “ I needed to quiet my son down because people are looking over at the table.” He leaned over my food and put his hands up to make himself seem like he wasn’t threatening me. But was very loud and obnoxious and spitting with his mouth wide open over my food! Completely unacceptable behavior, didn’t care he was bending over right above my new food so close to it. I was completely mortified and shocked that he even comforted me at my table and had the nerve to pretty much tell me and my son we had to be quiet, because we are disturbing other people. I told him “so what isn’t this a family restaurant? kids are going to cry.” He said “no this is to much and I’m going to have to ask you to quiet him down or take him outside and bring him back in quietly.” I said “no I will not be doing that, you except me to cover his mouth? Or for him to just be quiet because you say so? He’s a child and he’s obviously having a rough morning, quite frankly you’re hovering literally directly over my food so you need to step back and leave from my table.” He proceeds to tell me “well I’m the owner I can tell you to leave!” My son started to cry and yell even more because this guy was so close and causing a scene at the table. I said “well I don’t care, you can get away from me and my son and I will gladly leave!” Not to mention he caused a big scene and commotion in front of a group of elderly women. Telling me “you don’t have to pay for your food, just leave” I said “I wasn’t going to pay you anything not after you just approached me.” Mind you the women were like saying “no way, you need to leave her alone!” Which after he left from my table. One of the older woman did approach me and said “he was very rude and that shouldn’t have happened to you and she was very sorry.” I said no “it’s okay. They won’t be receiving any more of my money not to mention I’ll make sure my family doesn’t come here anymore either.” The owner stood at the front to make sure I was leaving. As I was walking by, he kept talking to me telling me “to just leave waving his arms.” I told him to “shut up, stop talking to me because no one was saying anything to you. &to get away from me and my child and you better not touch or follow me.” At that point I was livid and furious. I then proceeded to tell his hosts, “if this is how the OWNER is going to treat pregnant woman with a five year old child you guys are disgusting! He needs to learn some customer service skills and clearly is delusional for thinking he can treat people that way!” I’m a General Manager, as well as a business owner. I’ve been one for the last 6 years. I would NEVER treat anyone who has a crying kid the way he treated me. People go through so much already, you don’t know what type of day someone is having. All he did was make the situation worse. Not to mention me nor my son never got to finish our meal. Or even touch our food because of the remake and him spitting and shouting over my food. I will never come here ever again! I’m a certified chef, private chef, and baker as well as owning my own business and being a GM for the last 6 years. I have years of culinary experience, certified in Gold Star Guest services, certified by ServSafe 3 times, American and hotel lodging association certified. I know what it takes and means to be a professional chef and business owner. It’s apparent he doesn’t know the first thing about owning...
Read moreHORRIBLE customer service. My cousin and I made a reservation, in person on 11/14 for a brunch 11/15 after my aunt's memorial service. We were told we would have the small room to the left of the entrance and it would be set up by 10:40 am for 25 people. When I arrived at 10:45 nothing was set up and two parties were seated in the section we were told we would have. When I asked the manager what was going on and why there were people seated and eating and none of our tables set up he said the girl never should have made the reservation. I asked why he approved it the day before and he said he didn't realize what day it was for and Saturday was his busiest day. The older couple seated was equally rude in that they could see we were scrambling to set up and heard me say it was for a memorial service yet still sat enjoying their second or third cups of coffee. The manager did nothing to make it right and never apologized to me or my cousin for making an already difficult day even more stressful and upsetting. The singular bright spot was our server Irene who did her best to make a bad situation better. She was a huge help. The front desk staff and manager were rude, condescending and completely uncooperative. They acted as if getting a booster seat for my nephew was a huge inconvenience. I will NEVER return or recommend this place again and I will tell everyone I know how horrible it was. I gave them only one star because I could not post this without a star rating, I would give them a minus 10 if I had the option.
This was the unsigned response I received 11/17/14 from the manager:
"Usually i do not dignify a letter like this with a response. Your cousin came mad right from the beginning for no reason. There was one table in the section and they were leaving anyways. I told her we would do our best to accommodate the party but that wasn't good enough. We accommodated her party on a days notice on a weekend. Good luck trying to find a place to do that for you. You people need to get a reality check."
My response: To be clear there were two parties seated in two of the three booths in the section we reserved. A party of four did leave promptly but the party of two lingered and were still finishing as my party was being seated around them. I offered to pay for their breakfast if the staff would reseat them somewhere else. They were never even approached with that offer.
None of the tables were set up, and one table was missing altogether.
The manager was at the front desk when the reservation was made, he was asked if we needed to leave a credit card or deposit, he looked at the information and said no it was fine.
We also left two contact numbers that could have been utilized if there was problem.
The restaurant was never so busy that people were waiting for seats the entire time our party was there.
The manager never even came out to address the situation with my cousin so I really don't know how he could judge her...

What’s good, fam! Juan here from Boss Fights and Bites — and this time we’re dropping into one of Rochester’s classic staples: East Ridge Diner & Steakhouse. This spot brings that old-school diner charm mixed with steakhouse vibes, and it did not disappoint.
I came hungry and left full — and let me tell you, that cheeseburger garbage plate? 🔥🔥🔥 Absolute beast. The meat was juicy, the mac salad was on point, the home fries had that perfect crisp, and the whole thing came together like a flavor explosion. If you’re in Rochester, you already know — garbage plates are a must, and East Ridge knows how to deliver one that slaps.
Let’s break down the full experience:
🔥 Pros:
✅ Massive Menu — Something for Everyone From all-day breakfast to steaks, pasta, seafood, burgers, and comfort food — this place has it all. Whether you're in the mood for pancakes or a porterhouse, they got you.
✅ Cheeseburger Garbage Plate = 🔥 I had the cheeseburger garbage plate and man, it was a whole experience. The flavors were bold, the portion was wild, and it’s honestly one of the better ones I’ve had in the city. 100% worth it.
✅ Big Portions No small plates here. You get loaded up — especially on dinner entrees. Come with an appetite or expect leftovers.
✅ Classic Diner Feel It’s got that cozy, local diner energy. The kind of place where regulars know the servers by name. No frills — just good food and casual vibes.
✅ Steakhouse Choices Without Premium Prices You can get a solid cut of meat or even some surf & turf without emptying your wallet. Great value for the size and quality.
⚠️ Cons:
❌ Dated Decor Let’s be real — it looks like it hasn’t had a facelift in a while. Clean, but definitely frozen in time. If aesthetics matter to you, just focus on your plate.
❌ Service Can Vary Most of the time the staff is great, but during busy hours, it can feel rushed or slower than usual. Be patient and it’s usually worth the wait.
❌ Occasional Food Inconsistencies Not every dish is a knockout. While my garbage plate was 🔥, something like fries or toast might be average on certain days. Still good overall though.
🎯 Final Thoughts:
East Ridge Diner & Steakhouse delivers that hometown comfort food experience that hits the soul. It’s not trendy, it’s not flashy — but if you're in the mood for hearty meals, chill vibes, and classic Rochester plates (especially a cheeseburger garbage plate that smacks) — this place deserves your attention.
👑 Boss Fights and Bites Rating: 4.3 out of 5 Would I go back? Yup. Would I recommend the garbage plate? Without hesitation. Is this a cheat-day paradise? Absolutely.
