We were passing through Marlboro, NY, Wednesday late afternooon and stopped at the Raccoon Saloon for an early dinner. We had the place to ourselves and sat at the best location although daylight was fading to see the fantastic view. My dinner mate got their 8 oz hamburger for a base price of $11.95. She added grilled onions and garlic mayo and changed fries to sweet potato fries. Each addition or change adds $1 to your price. They also offer a 12 oz burger. The hamburger was cooked as ordered and was juicy and flavorable but she was disappointed that it was served on a standard hamburger roll. I had their bowtie pasta with garlic, mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, broccoli rabe and seasoned chicken chunks for $20.95. I recommend it because it was cook to perfection, fresh, flavorful and tender. It is ala carte and not served with bread but the portion is huge. I probably would have given the restaurant a perfect rating but its location is a deterrent. It's on the only road thru the heart of Marlborro and there are no traffic lights to stop traffic. Unless you are able to park on the same side of the restaurant you will find it hszardous to cross the road at night. It was dark and at rush hour when we left and we tried to cross at a designated crosswalk. After a few minutes a car stopped traffic one way, and as we advanced to the middle, the cars just rushed by leaving us trapped and fearful. After frantically waving our arms for traffic to stop, a truck saw us and literally came to a sudden stop to let us cross. Unfortunately, we would not attempt to go again unless it...

#9 The Raccoon Saloon
I've lived in Marlboro for the last 7+ years, and I've learned that there are very few restaurants in Marlboro...especially ones that don't specialize in Italian food. Fear not, Italian restaurants will pepper this list in the coming days lol. But, if you've ever driven through Marlboro, you've no doubt heard of the Raccoon, and what you've probably heard is that they have the best burgers around. This is a factual statement.
The hamburgers served here are thick, juicy, and flavorful. I prefer mine with cheddar and bacon, and the 8 oz version is more than enough to fill me up. There is a 12 oz version...you may want to loosen the belt a bit. In addition to top-notch burgers, the filet mignon is always prepared perfectly.
If beef isn't on your menu, then I recommend the oven baked, herb-stuffed chicken breast. They also have an extensive appetizer menu (my wife recommends the french onion soup) and daily specials (many people rave about the Prime Rib).
The atmosphere is that of a local pub, and admittedly, we run into someone we know almost every time we go. The owner, Ronan, can usually be seen during dinner, chatting up the guests and making sure everything is running smoothly. This is also a great place to come for St. Patrick's day...which we've done many times.
They have a great bar and plenty of space for large groups, attentive and friendly staff who will remember your favorite drink, plus, a great view of the Hudson River. Maybe I'll...
Read moreWhen a restaurant advertises it is wheelchair accessible that does not mean you will need to back the wheelchair over a 5” threshold with no slopping wedge on either side. This was the direction we were given tonight by the owner. This of course was after we stood outside the fire exit to the lower dining room that three wait staff couldn’t unlock. The manager is called to unlocks the door and we see the high threshold his suggestion of why don’t you just back it up and over. Well sir it is not as easy as you think to do that. Luckily for us my brother who has severe CP was able to stand so we could help lift him up over the threshold. This is extremely difficult to do when your lower extremities are stiff and unable to bend. To be honest if it were just me and my brother I would have left when I saw the threshold but, we were there to celebrate my sister’s birthday and I wanted to try and make the evening enjoyable. Sadly enough it was not the case for me. The food was good and our waiter was attentive but, when the owner walks up to our table in the middle of our dinner to ask how the food was and not have the decency to acknowledge the difficulties we faced just trying to get into his restaurant is mine boggling to say the least. If I can give you a suggestion on how to become wheelchair friendly. Go to Home Depot spend $20 bucks build a small slope on each side of your thresholds to make all your patrons...
