The place It is located in downtown Penn Yann and is a bit deceiving when you pull up front it looks small. However when you walk in you see it is really quite big! So getting a table shouldnt be a problem most anytime!
The food I have done two really big take out ordered and I will say I was very impressed. As a few people said the woodfire pizza is really good. We ordered a large bacon and ham pizza and were fighting over who got to eat the last piece. Next up is the wings they were solid my only complaint was they weren't crispy enough! I find this to be a common problem with alot places. However the BBQ and Teriyaki both had great flavor. I chose the charred option which gave them a smoky flavor which we liked. Next up the Steak salad man was it good!! The steak in the salad was done very well!!! All the ingredients blended well again my only complaint they ran out of the almond dressing so we had to make due with an alternative. Finally the Brisket sandwich I ordered was great. I have no idea is they smoke it or for how long I can tell you that the meat in their BBQ sauce tasted great!
Coffee Yes I thought this a little weird but they have a full coffee bar and since I was waiting for my order I ordered a latte. I was impressed it has great flavor I forgot to ask who kind of beans they used. I can tell you being a coffee snob I wasn't disappointed!
The staff Since I have done take out only I can comment as to just my talks with the staff while I was waiting. They were all very friendly in our casual comversations. I hope to give them a try sometime soon! The verdict This is my new favorite place in Penn Yan I have been to most of them but I can honestly say I have tried quite a few things off the menu and most were great. I would strongly recommend you give this...
Read moreI really want to like the silver bird so I have given it many tries (over 6) over their time in Penn Yan unfortunately they continue to struggle with poor service, poor food quality and cleaning. That said they have potential it's a great menu, neat idea for a restaurant and the only wood fired pizza in py. I will focus on my last trip to highlight the issues I have seen on my trips. We arrived in a large group around 7pm sat and ordered drinks. The table was sticky and dirty from the previous party. Our dinks took over 10 minuets to reach the table even then several members of the table got left out and had to ask many times before they finally got their drinks. Next we ordered our food 4 of the meals came with pre dinner salads they came out quick but one was forgotten. After a long wait the food came out the wings were great the rest was not. 4 people ordered Mac and cheese and 3 plates of it came out cold. On top of that the waiter gave the plates to the wrong people then argued with us when we suggested that they were not in front of the right people. Most of the rest of the food was ok untill the person next to me got their slices to go with their wings. The pizza was obviously a day old with some "new" cheese thrown on top and re heated. The crust was stiff and pizza cold... At a pizza place. We finished our food without additional issue then left. We have had other similar experiences when here with other folks, food forgotten, brought out cold or waiting very long for simple things. Once we got seated on the deck with 3 friends and we're forgotten for over an hour. Or the time we called for take out and the phone was left un-attended with us on the line for over 20 minutes untill we drove down to see what the issue was. I want to like this place but I can't with...
Read moreNot a welcoming place at all. Let me just state that in our party of Five, 4 out of the 5 us are servers including myself. There were instructions to seat ourselves, sounds great. We sat ourselves. We sat at a table and our server, Jes greeted us (already in a rude tone) with “5 of you? This table can seat 10 so if a party comes in we will make you move”. Understandable, but why be rude? Made us all feel incredibly uncomfortable. It felt like being yelled at during lunch in grade school. She said that, dropped menus, and walked away without saying another word. When she came back over she continued to take our drink orders, the 3rd person ordered a smoothie. Jes scoffs, looks at them and says in an annoyed tone “yes” after she thought about wether or not she wanted to make the smoothie. After she gathered our drink orders (4 sodas and 1 smoothie) she left the table with another scoff and (again in rude and annoying tone) said “I need a few minutes because it takes me time to make the smoothies”. Again, made us feel uncomfortable, and like a burden for something that is offered on the first page of the menu. At this point all any of us wanted to do was leave. She came back with our drinks and said “there’s a 45 minute for food”. Honestly I’m glad there was a wait because we were looking for a way to leave without being rude. We kindly said “Okay, in that case could we get the bill and pay for our drinks”. We paid, and left. We felt unwelcome from the minute Jes first interacted with us until we walked back out the front door. It was extremely unfortunate because it was my first time there, along with a few other of the people in my party. We heard good things about this place, but it was simply ruined by Jes. Terrible service and do not...
