I was very disappointed with our recent visit to The Wagner Restaurant. We had a group of 8 people, all originally from PY but currently living out of town, that had to return for the planning of a funeral service. We all had fond memories of coming for lunch and having the lunch buffet, and we were disappointed that it wasn't still offered. Frankly, this was my only reason for suggesting to come here.
The food is as basic as you can find with nothing setting it apart from any other chain restaurant. I had a burger, which was good, but the fries are the same as any other place, and the portions were smaller that I was expecting. Two days later my wife couldn't even remember what she had eaten. It was completely forgettable. My brother-in-law had the buckwheat pancakes but said he wouldn't order them again.
The interior of the restaurant is dingy, dark, and severely outdated. It doesn't look like any effort has been put into maintaining or updating the place over the past 30 years. Wobbly and worn out chairs, tables that are uneven, cracked and broken floor tiles, and many other small defects all around that make you question the quality of everything. Just look at their own pictures on Facebook. You'll clearly see exactly what I'm talking about. It's just not an environment that welcomes guests.
Honestly, I felt like it was one of those places that just gets people in and out as quickly as possibly so they could serve the next in line. But the place was 90% empty, and there definitely wasn't a line.
Some positives: Our server was great. Attentive, quick, and very personable. We were seated quickly. It's cheap, but of course it would have to be. Plenty of nearby public parking.
TL:DR - Nothing special, 3 decades past it's prime. I won't be returning.
I can think if 12 better options in town, 7 of which are within walking distance, and another that has the best fried chicken you'll...
Read moreGreat breakfast spot!! My husband and I stopped at Wagners this morning and had a wonderful breakfast! He had a blueberry pancake, eggs, sausage & home fries. The blueberry pancake was amazing! The home fries were delicious and the eggs were good. The sausage was just so-so (typical frozen patty served at many diners). I had a buckwheat pancake and eggs. The pancake was good but I wish I had ordered the blueberry! The eggs were good. One thing I will say is that they did not scrimp on the butter like so many places! I hate when it seems like they barely passed a buttered knife across my toast! And my husband’s rye toast was really good- made with homemade rye bread! Definitely worth a try!! I wish we would have found this one earlier in the week, we definitely would have gone back! They had a few thing that sounded good that I would have...
Read moreUnbelievable restaurant! Went on a Sunday morning. Place was packed full. We got a table tho right away. Server was awesome, was there as we sat down. Had our drinks immediately and ordered then. Omg less than 10 minutes she brought our breakfast. Food was hot and best breakfast i have had out in years. Great pancakes, cooked perfectly. Staff all very friendly and courteous. Never had to ask for coffee refills. Prices amazing also. Our server was a petite very pretty long hair blonde. Wish i had her name to mention. I can't wait to go again as we live 45 minutes away. But definitely worth the drive. Kudos to the breakfast...
