Updated review: Brought the family in to try some more menu items. Tacos: carne asada & al pastor -- still excellent! Homemade horchata -- still lovely! Son's chicken burrito was just OK. It was a basic burrito with dry chicken and not much to recommend it. Husband & son both ordered the Mangonada, a mango smoothie that the restaurant has advertised on its facebook page. Was presented as is traditionally done using chamoy sauce and a tamarind stick. It was an interesting drink, well worth trying, but both husband and son were disappointed. More of a mango slushie than a smoothie, it was more watery than expected and was missing the chunks of fresh mango shown in the photo on the facebook site. And while we expected it to have a sour component given the chamoy sauce, it was very sour without much balancing sweetness and overpowering any mango flavor in the drink.

Original review: Terrific little taqueria hidden in Ballston Spa! Stopped in for a light meal to check things out. Started with a beverage -- a large glass of a very nice homemade horchata. Light and refreshing, Horchata is the perfect accompaniment to mexican food. The carne asada plate was truly excellent. Four double-layered-tortillas filled to overflowing with tender, flavorful beef with chopped onion and cilantro. The plate was garnished with a grilled scallion and some sliced radish. Service was friendly and welcoming. The waitress told me they will soon be expanding the printed menu. I'm looking forward to trying the new dishes. ...

I called in our order. Young lady said it will be ready in 10 minutes. We live 15 minutes away, so I asked to have them start it in 5 minutes. So it's ready when I get there. If it was a minute or two no big deal, but when I arrived they hadn't even started it! We had to be somewhere, and that was the reason I called it in. The woman had the ticket (she showed me) but then she came around the counter to make matters worse, she started telling me that my wife never mentioned that we would pick it up in 15 minutes??? I said you're right, my wife never said we would pick it up in 15 minutes because you were speaking with ME! I never once mentioned my wife calling in the order. The young lady came out to argue with me, after not making our order. The man in the kitchen overhearing the commotion came out to try to rectify the situation by saying "I make it quick and give you HALF off (I agreed because I didn't gave much of a choice at this point) we needed to be in Saratoga in 30 minutes. Come time to check out the total was $35.00 I said you mean to tell me that an entree, four tacos, a side of queso, and a dessert would have been $70.00? She said no, it would have been $47.00! Last time I checked half off is not $35.00. Poorly run, poor customer service, poor math skills, and you could really tell they rushed the order because the food quality was terrible!...

Wanted to love this place...

  1. Greasiest most grizzle-filled carne asada I've ever had. It soaked the tortilla and dripped out. And I've had a LOT of carne in the Southwest and never had that much grease. At least 7 solid pieces of fat in half of my burrito, so the quality of the beef is very low. I could eat half because of the excess grease. Honestly can't even factor price into my review because it's irrelevant when you can't eat the food.

  2. Such a strange service here... I asked for iced tea and they bring me a bottle of lipton or something. I sort of expected fresh brewed regular tea in a glass. So, I ask for water instead and they bring a bottle. Clearly this is an immediate upsell. Matches with other reviews on the 1-star range. I could grab those drinks at home. What makes it special here? Not even a glass to drink from 😒😆

  3. The waitress did not understand any English, so she was bringing drinks that weren't ordered. Look, I get it. They're from another country and that's really not the issue... as long as the food and service are decent. The issue is simple plain communication can't even happen and she didn't have anyone else with her that spoke English. Also combined checks without asking.

Bottom line for you: The basics just aren't covered here, but NYers won't know the difference as long as they make stiff...

This was my first time here, and it is now one of my favorite places for Mexican food in the area. A friend and I met for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was continually busy but not packed. Our waitress was friendly, polite, and helpful with assisting us with what to order. Chips and salsa (free) came out quickly, followed by our drinks. She ordered a steak torta, which she reported as "delicious." I chose a steak chimichanga with peppers and onions. Very different from any chimichanga I have had, but excellent. The steak was in bite-sized pieces, so it was very easy to eat. Definitely a fajita-type filling. Refried beans and rice were not an afterthought, as they can be in some places. The beans were creamy and flavorful, and the rice was well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. Finally, tres leches cake for dessert. I love this item, but can hardly ever find it. We each were served a good-sized piece of cake and it was absolutely delicious! Overall, a great find. Terrific service, excellent food, and a nice, relaxed atmosphere. There is also a small grocery section with imported Mexican food and a small pastry case as well. This is a must-try place if you are in the Saratoga area (about 10 minutes from downtown).

This place is exactly what you want. Started off with the free chips and salsa and WOW the chips were hot and fresh. Salsa was very good as well and tasted like a garden (in the best way). I ordered the tacos and got two Al pastor and two steak. The steak were good, but the Al pastor BLEW. ME. AWAY. I don't usually tout that I'm from Texas, but suffice to say I've had many Al pastor tacos in my time and this was up there with the best, if not THE best. My boyfriend got the Al pastor enchiladas and they were hands down the best enchiladas we've ever had. The rice and beans were as good as it gets, as well. We topped it off by trying the churro and the tres leches cake. Let me just say, the churro was so delicious it'd be worth going just for that alone. It was hot and crispy with some creamy filling, very very good. The tres leches was good and worth trying, but not the star of the show. All in all, absolutely worth going. Two beers, two entrees, two desserts and it was under $70. I will be a regular.

Stopped in for lunch with a coworker. Both got the birria tacos. Came with 4 tacos, radish, and a spicy salsa instead of the standard birria "au jus". They were delicious and I really appreciated the nice kick of heat that the salsa had. Nice it was on the side so you could adjust to your liking. The beef was tender and flavorful. Tacos were served on 2 corn tortillas each. They brought out chips and salsa to start and the chips were some of the best I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant! Cute, low key spot. A few tables inside, also a small grocery of items for sale. They have deals for taco Tuesday. Will definitely go again!
