Edit due to the owner's considerate response, I WILL try again. I'll update! Owner-we'll see you!
My husband is mad I had him go all the way out there to get this food. It's 6 hours later and he's still bothered.
I tried it once before and the doubles was good, but the curry chicken was just OK. I loved the roti.
We ordered Oxtail with rice and peas, curry chicken+roti and two doubles with chicken. Everything got home hot and sort of well-packaged.
The doubles had no chicken. They were VERY bland.
Curry chicken was spicy, but had no flavor. My husband described it as " just wet and spicy. "
The Oxtail was cooked through, but there was no gravy on it. There was.... Drippings? Under the rice. It was really unseasoned as well. Somehow, still tender and not dry.
The roti was good too me. My husband didn't like it.
The young lady who took the order by phone was almost rude - her tone was that of someone who feels like her time is being wasted. I asked what kind of doubles they have. She didn't seem to understand. I clarified I was asking about meat. She said "doubles is just chickpeas." I said, "so you don't do meat in your doubles." "We charge extra." When she asked what sauce I wanted, I was unsure what was available and asked-she begrudgingly began to explain. (I don't know the menu. It's not clear online. Your website literally only has ice cream on it.) This girl didn't have time for me-never even got my name for the order, so I ordered as quick as I could. If she'd been attentive, perhaps my order would have been correct. (she comes off as if she's being forced by parents to do the job.) (note this is fully the opposite of the young man who took my order in person last time. He was SUPER friendly, kind, knowledgeable and professional-and my order was right. )
I usually give our places another shot if some of the food isn't great bc anyone can have an off day or mess one thing up. Today was my another shot I ate1/4 the roti w the 4 pieces of oxtail. I threw the rest out. Wasted food and $50. With the attitude of the young lady who took my order, I wasn't about to end up fussing w anyone by calling to complain or ask for it to...
Read moreBeen long overdue for a review about this place. Halal. Probably been here 30 to 40 times. The level of cleanliness of the front of the house is immaculate, spacious, and the seating is enough for individuals, couples, and small groups, which is my preference. BOH is industrial grade, dinamic; the chef/owner and the team are always on top of things in the back, fresh foods coming out at any given time. Catering seems like a good and reliable option here.
The service is this combination of professionalism and familiarity. I personally feel at home here. This is a family owned business and it shows. And they will make sure to ask your opinion about the food if dining in.
The food here is delicious, mainly due to the team's respect for texture and flavor; meats like goat and oxtails come out tender and juicy. Rice based dishes are on point. Rotis feel made to order whenever you do (you can get rotis wrapped-up or on the side). The vegetarian options are great. I find the chickpea stew/tamarind sauce in doubles and aloo pies addictive. If you are vegetarian and you don't know Trini food, you're missing out. There is this really nice spicy element -the right amount- on some of the dishes, but there are also non-spicy options.
There are deals during the week and usually special dishes coming out on Fridays and Saturdays. Guyanese cook-up rice, Jamaican patties and Indian kulfi are also a nice addition. Looking forward to try Guyanese pepper pot on Christmas; those who know, know.
Edit: WARNING ⚠️ Any kind of fried seafood here is ADDICTIVE, be it fish or shrimp. The fried fish comes with stew sauce unless it is to be served with bake. Sweet plantains are sweet enough to make your mouth water. The guyanese patties are just as...
Read moreMy daughter and I visited this establishment on Sunday and we were not disappointed. We called in our orders and received exactly what we asked for…Bake & Shark, Doubles (with the hook up 😂🤣😂), Curry Shrimp with rice and peas, potatoes, and Chick peas, Pumpkin, and Baiganee. We were pleasantly pleased. 😋😋😋
I have been to other restaurants where I’ve ordered multiple dishes and everything tasted the same. NOT HERE!!! Everything had its own distinct taste. Everything was absolutely delicious. Adam is the BOMB.COM. The first time I ordered Doubles I didn’t know what extra I wanted. His exact words were, “Don’t worry. I’ll hook it up. You won’t be disappointed!” He ain’t neva lied!!! The fact that he remembers me and knows exactly how to make it every time I visit is remarkable. That’s beyond excellent customer service. Joanna is the sweetest. As busy as she is in the kitchen, she always makes time to come out and greet her customers and it’s not just a hello. We conversed for several minutes about our food selections and other items on the menu. She, too, is extraordinary. My daughter and I are vegetarians and she remembered, pointing out the items on the menu that we could consume. She pays attention to her customers and that is a quality you rarely find nowadays. I definitely recommend patronizing this establishment as the food and customer service are top tier and you won’t be...
