We entered the taverna at 12;15 pm and were met with a strong smell of ammonia as a staff member was mopping the floor. Not a good thing. Then, the server a middle aged woman sat us down with no smile, no customer service sense at all. We both heard her say, "everybody comes at once". Well, I'm sorry to upset your day, you are in the hospitality business and should never say that audibly where customers can overhear you. She came back to our table and accused my friend of rearranging her table. I mean, who does that? She was cold and not pleasant. We ordered an eggplant spread which was mediocre at best, the pita bread was good, but I mean the taverna doesn't bake their own, so not much credit there. We ordered the lamb souvlaki sandwich. The food was served promptly. The lamb was a bit chewy and the sandwich seemed to have more lettuce, tomatoes and round fries than lamb. It was not a very good sandwich. My friend realized he got the wrong sandwich and when he told the server, she said, : I thought I gave you the wrong one". She did not apologize or offer to get him the correct sandwich, She just walked away. I have never experienced this kind of non caring service in my lifetime. I was a server back in my 20's and this behavior was appalling to me. The server and the less than mediocre food really ruined the experience for us. I was going to come here in a few weeks with two other friends, but not after this horrible first experience. The experience was surely as the Greeks say,...
Read moreWe found Meraki when we got hungry coming back from Greenwich into New York. The menu reminded me of some authentic Greek restaurants in Greektown in Chicago. The waiter was extremely attentive and knowledgeable and had suggestions and told us his favorite dishes. There are many unusual items on the menu, including some fish dishes that were new to me. So instead of my usual Greek salad or typical lunch fare, I ordered The Poseidon platter....Grilled shrimp, calamari, and octopus. I don't know what spices they used on these grilled items, but they were well spiced and absolutely delicious. They seemed exceptionally fresh as well.
My wife and I shared a Paphos Island salad. My wife picked it because she likes cilantro and the menu said it had cilantro in it. The waiter said he would have the kitchen put extra cilantro into the salad and they did and I thought it was exceptionally tasty.
My wife had an entree that she was less thrilled with, but I think it was just simply too unusual for her taste. It was a lamb dish cooked in a lemon sauce with cooked romaine. Very unusual. I finished it off as leftovers at home.
I really hope to go back there and try a few more seafood dishes. At the moment this would be my first choice if I felt like going out for seafood...

Seems like a lot of locals eat here. Appetizer was artichokes cooked with peas, garlic and dill in a red sauce. Ate the entire thing myself. Chicken lemon soup was delicious Lemon potatoes were delicious Chicken gyro platter was all chicken breast that was cooked on that spinner thing and then cut off. Very tasty and came with their fried round potatoes which were delicious. Ate so much I couldn’t get desert but I did have their sangria which was really good too. Already thinking of going back with more people. Wish I had pics but was hungry and eating was...
