Halal-n-Out — Restaurant in Town of North Hempstead

Recently, my husband and I went out shopping. I was feeling ravenous and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a Halal eatery in the little strip of stores near P.C. Richards, New Hyde Park. Without waiting to drive back to our "usual" Halal eatery, a block from our house, we ventured within this new place.

I told the server, Moe, that "we are trying out your place today, cause we always go to the one near our house". Moe quickly responded "we are the Best". I said "we shall see"!

Lo and Behold, Moe was correct. For just $1 more than our neighborhood eatery, Halal-n-Out is generous with its servings of meats and salads! Their serving scoop is about 3" in diameter and each scoop is almost heaped. We were given 2 scoops! Our neighborhood eatery's serving scoop is about 2" in diameter and each scoop is loosely filled. We were given 1 and 1/5 scoops!

Both of these two Halal eateries sell white sauce for the same price. Halal-n-Out container is about 33.8 Fl Oz. whereas our neighborhood eatery container is about 16 Fl Oz.

Halal-n-Out meat order (either lamb, chicken or combo) comes with half a slice of pita bread. And a can of FREE soda. Regrettably as of May 31 when we went in again, Halal-n-Out had changed its policy and charging an extra 50 cents for soda. This is totally understandable and acceptable, due to inflation.

The interior of Halal-n-Out is clean and provides a few tables and chairs to accommodate customers.

What makes Halal-n-Out stand out most is the service by Moe. He is very pleasant, courteous, considerate and generous with the sauces too. Hey, in this time and age, everyone enjoys good value for their money.

I've driven by this spot to go to a nearby store many times so I've been meaning to try it for a while, since it's close to work. Now that I have, I don't think I'd be back.

Ordered a mix lamb/chicken wrap with a few of the toppings. For one, I was excited to see that the tortilla was heated before he prepared everything else. However, when eating it I was surprised to find that the meat itself (which came out of the waiting to be used warmer section) was fairly room temperature/cold, so everything overall translated to being not warm. The toppings are pretty standard for such a restaurant (corn, tomatoes, olives, peppers, pickles, beans, lettuce) and they did have white sauce but what did bum me a bit was that they didn't have hummus. Especially because previous Yelp reviews have commented on them having hummus, so not sure if this was just a temporary thing or if they've removed it completely.

The price is great, but pretty on par with similar places. And parking is super easy.

What really bothered me the most, however, is the creation of the wrap. It was hard to watch as the attendant folded the filled wrap one way and then folded it a second way, as if to make a sandwich, and the wrapped it in tin foil. I was actively watching things fall out and thinking "there is no way I can eat this as a wrap". Ultimately, I cut everything with a fork and knife.

There are so many similar spots in the area that I will probably try some others before considering coming back to the fold-it-yourself...

We ordered from this location to cater for a 15 person party for my friend who is halal. I called the day before the party and the person on the phone was kind, courteous and extremely helpful with my order.

On the day of the party, they called me an hour before to confirm my order, which I usually do not see from other places. When we went to pick up the food, all the food was ready and was still hot. They made sure to give us extra rice, a salad, lots of extra sauces and pieces of pita bread ALL FOR FREE. They even offered to help us take the food to my car, even though they were quite busy at the time. The whole order and pick up was extremely seamless.

Last but not least, the food was extremely delicious! I am usually very nervous about getting a lot of food in bulk for a party, but everything was extremely flavorful and fresh. Everyone at the party loved the food and literally went back for three servings. I’m so impressed with the customer service and quality at this restaurant. Definitely a great location and great people working there. Would recommend for anyone else who wants to cater. Great generous amount, good wailer and...
