Update: My daughter and I have been going here for years. When I first started going there my daughter was a year and a half even then she loved to have an occasional treat from them. They are still very good but I had a bad experience yesterday what a worker who I'm not sure is a the owner or if he's just a worker. (I made another review on Yelp) First he was policing me for taking too many sugars and I assured him that I was just taking the amount that I need for my coffee that I was waiting for then he went on to say that every time I'm they're my daughter and I leave a mess. First of all, every time I'm there if I'm sitting and eating there I clean up after myself and my daughter. I clean off the table put anything that was on the table in the trash clean up all the crumbs and put it in the trash. I do the best I can to keep the floor clean as far as picking up napkins or anything that drop but there's only obviously so much I can do with that. I assured him that every time I'm there I clean up my mess and that it had been months since I'd seen him I went the one time with my parents he said my parents weren't there on that given day and that it was just my daughter and I when we left a mess. He was not using a loud tone but he was being rude. Another time last autumn I was there just to pick up some bread and a cupcake for my daughter since she loves their chocolate cupcakes and a scone for me and my daughter wanted a sugar. She likes to eat the sugar and she likes to put the sugars on bread. I let her take a sugar and after the fact that same man told me I was not allowed to take the sugars unless I get a coffee or drink. I apologized and said I didn't realize I was not allowed. He didn't even acknowledge my apology. After that I do not to take sugars unless I'm buying a drink but I did think that was a little harsh but I still respect rules and I respected it. But obviously he didn't want to let that go for him to have gotten on my case now about a mess that I didn't even make and yelling at me and in policing how many sugars I take. Technically he wasn't yelling I don't want to give the wrong information but I mean he was reprimanding me talking in a less friendly tone I'm making false accusations. This was a short man with an accent I don't know if he's the owner or a hired worker. If he's the owner I don't know if I'd ever want to give him money to his business most of the workers there are very nice. I also want to add I bake I cook I make my own stuff I'm a very good Baker anything there I can make myself it's nice to go somewhere where I don't have to do my own baking or cooking As a treat I don't do it all the time. But I don't go to a place to be policed. Last time I was police like this was the 1980s when I was a kid and The grouchy custodian was accusing me of leaving crumbs on the table and put me on the "bad side" which is what he did thinking he was humiliating students and teaching them a lesson. I worked at a school 20 years ago and boy did things change with children's behavior. Children left actual trays on the table and wrappings and there was a grouchy custodian there too. In this case we actually sympathized and helped clean up the kids mess.
Update: Still very good but they seem to have gotten pricey, that or some items are just pricier then others items Iv gotten in the past. Their best item is still their baguette. Their tarts are still good but their crust's don't seem to have as much real butter as they used to (I think they switched to butter flavored Crisco which doesn't taste as good) but still very good tasting and I would still buy tarts from them for an occasional treat. Their baguettes are still a very reasonable price. My daughter loves their baguette and chocolate fudge pie.
I like their breads, pie tarts and quiches. My daughter loves their brownies. I hope this place stays as all the good bakeries from the past are gone. I like that their pie crust taste like they contain real butter as many bakery goods taste like they...
Read moreI placed an order on line for pick up so that I would not have to wait indoors during a time when many like myself are still concerned about COVID. I received a call saying Linzers are out of stock so I asked the girl to double the beignets I ordered in place of the linzer. Upon picking up my order, I was charged for linzers on the receipt so I called the bakery to try to rectify this. The phone rings and rings without anyone picking up so I went inside the store where I explained to an employee what had happened. She spoke to the girl who handled my order and then told me I have to wait on line for everyone before me to be served before I could get refunded. I could not believe she told me that! Basic customer service!! If you make a mistake, you apologize and fix it right away. When it's finally my turn, after she served 6 other customers in front of me, Isabelle, the cashier continues to disagree that she did anything wrong. No apology. I leave the bakery flustered but checked my refund receipt. Guess what??! Isabelle refunded me the wrong item on my receipt!! Complete incompetence. Managers, please train your employees about customer service! And if you find that your inventory is not matching up to your sales, you know...
Read moreI’ve been coming to this French bakery for years with my family—even making trips from out of town specifically to stop here. Sadly, our visit today left us disappointed enough that I felt compelled to leave this review.
We stopped in for lunch and ordered two salads ($15 and $14), each of which came with a small piece of bread. After paying and sitting down, we realized no butter was provided. When we politely asked for a small pat of butter, we were told there would be an additional $1 charge. This, despite the fact that we’d already spent nearly $50 between the salads, a few cinnamon buns, and some croissants.
What’s most frustrating isn’t the dollar—it’s the principle and the attitude of the staff. Their refusal felt unnecessary and surprisingly rude, especially considering this is supposed to be a warm, welcoming bakery. Something as simple as a pat of butter to accompany the bread you serve shouldn’t be treated like a luxury item, especially not for loyal customers.
Unfortunately, it seems the customer service here has shifted, and not for the better. We’ve always loved coming here, but after today’s experience, I’m not sure...
