Follow-up (4 months later): We've always wanted to see the best of Halal Grill but its clear the team doesn't want the same. Time and time again, our orders have had us waiting 10-15 minutes even after a 30 minute estimate. On our latest visit, the staff finally handed us our Zinger orders and then apologized because the chicken patties they used were small. They offered a discount in the equivalent of $0.65 per burger, which is a gesture we recognize but don't accept given the entire appeal of the Zinger and the delay in being served. Despite a couple great experiences, Halal Grill has given us enough issues to be taken off our go-to list. Rating was downgraded.
Follow-up (1 month later): Following a string of long waits, inconsistent flavor and rather dry cheeseburgers, we downgraded Halal Grill's rating. Zingers, the staple item, have suffered from changes to the breading and the $9 price no longer includes fries. We're willing to look past small mistakes but waiting 20 minutes following a 30 minute pre-order is poor execution. There's a lot of potential here, and we will be back to update. Rating was unchanged.
We were looking for a new late-night spot outside of Queens and were elated to hear of Halal Grill's opening a few days ago. Tucked just around the corner off of Broadway across from the train station, the location of this restaurant makes it accessible and easy to find. We walked through the hallway that entirely separates the dining area from the takeout window which was nice to see. One of the team members gave us meal suggestions which we took in their entirety. The Zinger Burger with Mango Herb sauce had crisp to offer start to finish, flavor that kept giving, and this wonderful presentation with a brioche bun to tie everything together. Oversized chicken breasts in sandwiches is on-trend right now so we were happy to see the sandwich size here. Though we thought the House Special Burger would match a more American flavor profile, the seekh kabab-like patty was juicy and still delicious with every chew. Our choice of Lemon Herb wings gave us the zesty, citrus taste we needed to cut the more rich items too. The Masala Fries could use some more desi masala but still good enough to munch on throughout the meal. One of the table's favorite items was the Steak Nachos which had everything from the freshness to the meaty-ness and cheesy-ness you could want from nachos. Combined with the fair pricing and 3AM closing time, we knew Halal Grill would be in our go-to list right away. For what it's worth, we also learned this establishment had one or more Sikh-owners which makes this restaurant another great example of the growing support and adoption of Halal options on...
Read moreWe placed an order and they said it'll be ready in 25 minutes we came back after 30 minutes, they then told us to wait 10 more minutes. We did and ended up waiting a total of 45 minutes for food that we barely ate. The wings were ok but too many peices were burned to char it had the burnt taste. Then there was the Mac and cheese that wasn't even cheesey. It was pasta with dried on crumbles of cheese it was gross to say the least. Then the peri peri corn which we assumed from the picture would be just corn with the peri peri seasoning. This came in a container filled with corn and a liquid mix that basically tasted like mayonnaise. Then there was the heart attack sandwich. We were really looking forward to this one. But it was so dry and tasteless. There was no mozzarella sticks at all the chicken was dry and tough. Again another waste. The only good that came out of it was the mango bubble tea was ok and the falooda was ok but nothing spectacular that I would drive out to the store again. We drove to hicksville thinking it'll be less travel and we will be back home in no time. We placed an order at 10:16 and was able to receive it at about 11:50. We got home at 12. So that means we waited longer than the actual travel time only to have food that was slapped together. I was highly...
Read moreThis place is owned by chefs and always serves FRESH food. The annoying aspect of that though is that you have to wait forever for the food, so I’d recommend calling in and pre-ordering, or else you’re going to be waiting for a while.
I’ve been here a couple times now and can say for sure that they have amazing food. Occasionally though, a little “burn” may through of off, but most times it’s amazing. If you go through the pictures I’ve posted, you may notice the garlic bread looks slightly burnt, but it only LOOKS. It tastes amazing! One item that I did not like was the zinger burger. The appearance was very “beastly” to me (lol) and it was very CRISP & a little dry. Not my taste.
My favorites here are their Mexican Chicken Wrap, Shrimp Tacos, Peri Peri wings (Lemon & Herb sauce) Taro Bubble Tea & their Fried Oreos. These are items I’ve re-ordered a couple of times in my few visits since they opened, and the ones I recommend!
Great value in opinion, and I’m definitely...
