Slappin Chick - Hicksville — Restaurant in Town of Oyster Bay

I’m not angry. Maybe feeling a little resentful but not angry. I’m disappointed. To be clear, the service was great. Placed my order on Uber Eats, order was prepared and ready in a timely matter, picked up by Uber Eats and delivery was superb (actually came earlier than ETA). It was the food itself that was solely responsible for the disappointment I was enveloped in today:

Not sure if it’s because we had it Uber eats delivered rather than pick up but it did not live up to the great reviews we were seeing on google. Not only did it not live up to expectations but it destroyed our insides and out.

Found out about this place via social media and let me tell you: their marketing is on point because everything looked absolutely finger-licking. And how excited we were to see that it’s close to home.

When it arrived, everything looked beautiful. I got the Mac n Cheese bowl with additional fries on the side and husband got the sliders plate. The seasoning used on everything was strange. I’m not sure how something that looks so bomb can taste almost like nothing. Like, I SEE the seasoning, but I don’t taste it. I FEEL the seasoning but again, I don’t taste it. To elaborate more on the FEEL: I could feel their dry rub moving around my mouth and throat as I chew and swallow. Kind of like soft, fine sand. It was strange. We both got the hot spice level and we barely felt the spiciness. By all means, we aren’t spicy pros but jeez, a toddler can probably eat it (don’t recommend). The mac n cheese was okay. The fries were good but it was covered in their seasoning. Dipping the fries in their slappin sauce was saving them. I think their slappin sauce did a hard carry for this meal (which we only had 1 of since I think they forgot the one that was suppose to come with the extra side of fries).

Now, the thing that got me feeling a bit resentful is the aftermath of it all: not saying that it’s food poisoning, but more so that it felt like food poisoning. Both husband and I had started to not feel good not even half way through. For different reasons at the time: husband was having a mild allergic reaction to something in the food while I was just feeling queasy and nauseated. Long story short: we ended up exhausted, fighting for our lives in the bathroom by the end of the night. I like to think that we both have cast iron stomachs - him more than me - so this speaks volume for us. I don’t even remember the last time we had such a bad reaction to food. Some of you may be thinking “oh, how can you be so sure that this fine establishment was the reason?” It was our only meal of the day since we were both fasting. And I doubt it was the water, mind you, that we’ve been drinking for years. Can you imagine the disappointment we felt that this was our first meal after not eating for a day? Utter disappointment I tell you. Oh! And on top of that, it was one of our pricier take out meals. We didn’t think that what we got justifies the pricing. I understand that Uber Eats does list the prices higher than in-store but I have looked at their actual in-store pricing and my statement still stands.

Overall, we will probably not be eating here again. Keep in mind that everything that was said is our own experience and opinions. I can only advise that anyone else proceed...
