If after your trip to IKEA, Theodore Roosevelt Home, or Jones Beach you would like to treat yourself to a surviving piece of Long Island History, the Sweet Shop on Broadway is just that place. A minute or two walk from the Hicksville train station, the sweet shop has stood the test of time for good reason; Seventy years ago people enjoyed quality natural food, in a spotless location, cooked and served by friendly and capable staff at reasonable prices,,, and still can here at the sweet shop in Hicksville. As your walk in, the owner may just be taking a pick-up order on the dial phone on the wall behind the register. While the menu is worth a look, you will notice the regulars concentrate on the specials board. The Athenian is an excellent choice on a cold evening, and the stroganoff exemplifies the idea of comfort food. But remember, these are specials and may get crossed off early, so bear this in mind when planning a visit. A great finish is a waffle-sundae, Homemade waffle, homemade ice cream, homemade whipped cream,,,,,and when I ask as nicely as possible (and it has not run out for the season) a drizzle of Sweet Shop honey, from the owners hive, tops off the treat! While you could leave without at least a look at the homemade chocolates, If you see your favourite, don't think twice about waiting till next time, as like the specials,, they are too often gone. The sweet shop isn't your trendy exciting place, Show me one of those that has aged as...
Read moreI have lived in Hicksville since they lifted the tracks. Over the years there have been many businesses that have come & gone; there have been businesses that were short-lived and age old ones like this one. This business is definitely one of them! Older than I am! Nice greek family that makes the best sweets. When I have the energy I stop here sometimes just to enjoy the atmosphere and get a few sweets for the goobers when they visit. The family that runs this place is the best, they care about the community. I wouldn't recommend having the squid, but everything else on their menu is superb. Staff is always helpful. This business absolutely deserves more support, spend your money...
Read moreGrowing up in the 60's in Hicksville, NY was a wonderful time. The Hicksville Sweet Shop was one of the largest parts of what made my childhood and teen years so magical. I will never forget the times I spent there. You could just walk in on a Friday night and know all the teenagers from Hicksville would be there. It was like Cheers for the teens, a place where everybody knew your name. Great music was always playing and I always got the hot fudge sunday, with nuts. I hope the owners know that even now with many of us from back then spread all over the country we still think fondly of the place we loved, The Hicksville Sweet Shop. Thank you so much for...
