WAY Over hyped. I've had a ton of Gyros in my life. From Turkish to Greek, all different styles. This one was well constructed BUT... Let's start from the top.
They are Greek. Very Greek. That was a good sign. They had the 3 spits of meat behind the counter (port, chicken and beef/lamb) but they were just sitting there, not heated, not rotating. Bad sign. I ordered a simple Lamb/Beef Gyro (I acknowledge the Greek call it a Yeero but the transliterated spelling is Gyro please). They did ask if I wanted the customary toppings and of course I said YES - EVERYTHING!
Wait time was minimal, about 2 minutes. But I did not see anything happening behind the counter. When the food came, it was in a paper-coated foil bag with the restaurant name and logo. Very nice. Easy to peel open and use as a wrapped holder. But I am not reviewing the way they wrapped my ordered lunch.
I got back to my car, pulled over and gently unwrapped. On first sight I was like "oooo" then it quickly turned to "oh" when I felt very little heat coming off the food. The oils seemed coagulated which meant cold meat. Yes it was. Salty too, not seasoned, just salty. The meat also appeared to be pre-sliced and just thrown onto a flat-top grill based on the scorch marks on the edges just trying to heat it up. The sauce seemed ordinary and the Pita bread was dead cold, not heated at all. They over used the sauce to cover the fact that they don't put much on there, but a few nice tasty french fries was thrown on top.. why? Who knows.
So is this the best Gyro I've ever had? By far - no. Many Halal vendors in the city rate at least a 7/10 while this place struggles getting past diner-level late night food. Their salads looked nice but I won't be going back anytime to try.
Sorry but you really need to prepare the food for the customers to visualize the freshness, not in a back room where who knows...
Read moreThe 3 Vegetable Yeeros sandwiches that my husband ordered over the phone were missing eggplant which is the 1st ingredient listed in the takeout menu. They were replaced with carrots that were not listed in the description. It was a huge disappointment since we were lookimg forward to the eggplant!!! I have ordered this dish several times before and never had an issue. When I called Yeeros & spoke with Stephanie, the owner, to explain the situation, her response was , “they probably ran out of eggplant but our dishes have the same quantities of vegetables.” After I requested a credit for a side of eggplant that was omitted, her response was, “There’s nothing I can do about that! Have a good day” and she hung up the phone abruptly!
See the owner’s response to my review. She doesn’t take responsibility for the error in my order and wrongfully blames me. To clarify, I only asked for a credit ONCE before when my chicken souvlaki on skewers was burnt. Also, our 3 vegetable yeeros had NO eggplant. If they ran out of eggplant as the owner claimed, my husband should have been informed when he placed our orders. Btw, this was the only time I ever sent a poor review. I hope that your order doesn’t get messed up & you get falsely...
Read morePrior to COVID I loved this place. However, since COVID my opinion has changed. I had just started ordering take-out food since March. This was the first time I was ordering a salad, or something which wasn't cooked. When I went in to pick up my food, the 2 people who were preparing the food had masks on, over their mouths, but not over their noses. They never once tried to adjust the masks...even after I was watching them, carefully. I paid for the food and then went outside to wait. I saw a third person, in the back area with no mask at all. I decided to ask for a refund...since this was my first time ordering a salad, it wasn't worth worrying about. When I asked for the refund, and explained why, the woman at the register was very rude and reluctantly gave me a refund. She even commented that other places are probably doing worse. Then she went on to tell the others that I'm just a paranoid person. I was upset with her reaction. I ended up going to Pete the Greek, another Greek restaurant, for take out, also in Plainview. They had 3 times the employees and everyone of them wore masks and gloves! Plus the food was excellent!!!! Don't bother with Yiasou Yeeros...go to Pete the Greeks! You won't be...
