Regarding G. Edick's review of Pelville Coffee and Pastry, I would like to offer my thoughts on his assessment. Since you had mentioned that the coffee was " pretty bad " for a place that touts itself as a coffee shop and that the review was difficult for you to write, perhaps I can offer clarification for the difficulty you claimed to have had encountered while writing your review. Pelville is a cafe - a small restaurant selling meals and drinks. By contrast, establishments like Slave to the Grind, Sunshine Coffee Roasters and Caffe Ammi are purveyors of fine coffee ; they primarily deal with coffee. Pelville serves outstanding breakfast, lunch, as well as pastries, cakes and muffins baked daily in the store. In other words, Pelville is not a purveyor of coffee; they are purveyors of food and baked goods that obtain their coffee from another fine purveyor of coffee in Connecticut - Willoughby's. The coffee served at Pelville may not appeal to you; however, to simply call it "bad" would be to diminish the painstaking research and sampling of the many brews the owner sampled before choosing what he believed to be the finest cup of coffee to serve to his patrons. I am passionate about coffee ; I drink it sans milk and sugar, so the depth, flavor, and smoothness of the bean are essential to my experience. I drink coffee from Pelville almost every day - sometimes twice a day. The dark, rich flavor of the brew satisfies my palate, and most importantly, I do not experience the lingering acidity that I often experience with other coffees. I have drunk coffee from all of the purveyors aforementioned, and I appreciate the craft and care that goes into each cup, and I enjoy them all ! Pelville's coffee happens to be my favorite. During a time when businesses are shutting their doors every day, perhaps we should examine the labels we casually toss out for public consumption - words such as " bad " to describe a beloved, delicious eatery in Pelham. Such comments are at best reductive and at worst...
Read moreThis pastry cafe is the epitome of Old Fashioned style eatery. Thank you! You feel comfort upon walking into here. I am from Pelham and lucky to have this local just down block from me. The decor is warm, clean and has an antiquated feel to it. I appreciate the simple menu style, nothing well done is complicated. The pastries are made on site and have their own unique styles. I have tried the Chocolate Carrot Cake in past and came back to get more for friends who truly were amazed. I was surprised but grateful to see a latin favorite here, Guava and creme cheese empanada. So good and great with coffee. The Pistachio Chocolate cheesecake is just sinful but divine. Places like these are a necessity as they preserve the details we often lose with bigger chains. Check this place out if you...
Read moreStopped in for breakfast. I had the avocado toast which had a VERY generous amount of the titular fruit. Would have preferred that the onions were sautéed. My wife enjoyed the eggs, potatoes, & toast which were fine. The latte and cappuccinos we ordered were just not good. Too much water through the grounds and the roast was too bitter for our palette. Also while we were there service became chaotic with one couple waiting 15 minutes for a takeout order that was probably sitting there for at least 5. Maybe just not a good day for the staff. We'll try again and hope that day was an exception for the service. Maybe go elsewhere if you're looking for top shelf...
