I’m not surprised to see so many negative reviews here. I’ve never had a problem at Bonsai but when I went to Bonsai 2 I was blown away. I had ordered spicy salmon rolls and asked for spicy mayo as well. The rolls were very hot, more than I expected. I didn’t send them back but I couldn’t eat them with the spicy mayo as well. I have a real gluten allergy and I can’t use soy sauce. I asked for sesame oil. Maybe unusual but hey, if I wanted relish and mustard... I am the one paying for it. Our waitress seemed ok, but when she got the sesame oil the other taller lady made the nastiest face right at me after she had asked what I ordered. I’m not going to lie, I laughed out loud! It was so crazy and I told my mom that the lady did NOT hide her disgust. Then we were brought the check with no offer of taking a dessert order that we both would have made. So I guess it was time to go. My mom then misplaced her credit card (in her bag) and the waitress would not leave and just stood over us like we were about to dine and dash. My mom had a brace on from a recent foot surgery. The waitress was then accompanied by the disgusted taller lady who continued to make obvious faces of disapproval as my mom was actively looking for her card. Afterwards we went to Mother Earth and my mom happened to buy sesame/honey bars and I had a strong urge to go eat one in front...
Read moreSome reviewers must be confusing Bonsai with another restaurant. I've been to Bonsai many times because it's the best sushi experience I've had in the valley. I'll just give it to you straight up: sushi chefs are Japanese (which is rare and good), sushi and sashimi has always been well chosen and well prepared, the sushi appetizers are unique and worth trying -- the "Dynamite" appetizer is lightly tempura fried white tuna on top of seaweed salad, and there's a very interesting sauce that you should ask for on the side because they tend to put too much, Salmon Skin Salad appetizer is great -- it's crispy shreds of salmon skin on top of seaweed salad. Ask for the salmon skin well done and extra crispy. Sauce on the side. The waitresses are sweet, attentive, and nice. But it's true that they can get overwhelmed when it's busy and things can be forgotten about. But the thing is that you're having such a nice time with the food and the surrounding that you'll probably be understanding about small lapses in the service
And my two top reasons for loving Bonsai... Happy Hour every day -- lmost everything on the menu is half price, and the sake is cheaper too. Very comfortable outdoor seating that's far from traffic noise and with a nice energy from a few passersby on their way to the yogurt place...
Read moreIt was a last minute dinner plan for the gathering with another family. Once we told the owner we had party of 9, she firmly told us we had to make reservations next time. They took 30 second to push the tables together. I guess we screwed up her time. SO IF YOU HAVE LARGE PARTY THAT REQUIRE THEM TO PUSH THE TABLES TOGETHER WITHOUT RESERVATIONS, BETTER GO ANOTHER TIME.
The waitress were so attentive, there were 2 missing rolls and the 2 waitress came to our tables and count the orders. They were able to find out which orders were missing. SO PLEASE CHECK your orders if your ordered a lot. We have about 20 rolls Ordered.
Read the past review that some customers have issues on the tips, we are lucky that we don’t have this issue at all. They already added to the bill, which is the subtotal of food and drink + sales tax, then tips. Which is different than American restaurant that tips not included in sales tax.
Also, they speak mandarin and cantonese among themselves and the chefs. So there is a great plus to communicate with them if you know those...
