We sat down at 6:30 and the restaurant was clearly packed. The waiter took drink orders promptly but that was the last prompt moment. We didn’t receive menus until 7:00 ordered at 7:15 (fine, slow but not an issue) and got our food a little after 9:20! (or at least the other people in our party did). we had to leave around 9 as we had a small child who can’t make it 3 hours from start to finish past our bed time so I asked the waiter after hunting him down not to bring our food and not to charge my elderly grandmother for it! The waiter was dismissive and nasty and while a portion was comped, they still charged her for my food against my wishes. Based on reviews, this is uncharacteristic of this restaurant but clearly it was short staffed and the staff was stretched far too thin. The rudeness read to me as waiters unable to fulfill the demand. Either do not overbook the place or hire more staff, as the experience was terrible and I can’t speak to the food because 2.5 hours in it...
Read moreThe reviews seem to be either very angry at delays & noise or in love with the spectacular food. Frankly I think the truth is somewhere in the middle: it’s just a regular old school suburban Italian restaurant. They do the standards well in a time when many older restaurants can’t manage to do that. None of the 4 dishes we ordered being offensive or particularly exciting either. Unfairly by having NYC so close we are spoiled by the choices available but remember some people just want the standards. The service can be a bit overbearing but again it’s the experience that that type
Thanks of restaurant aimed for. The open area layout can naturally get a bit noisy and more contemporary restaurants control by designing spaces differently, but remember to a large segment the Westchester crowd all they want is this known menu, they aren’t seeking more authentic regionally specific or even modern takes on the menu, they want the classic American idea of what...
Read moreWe dined at Alba's for Mother's Day. Overall the food was good; however, the service was not exceptional. Also, for the one member of our party of eight who is vegan, the food and service was a disappointment. Although the restaurant had assured us at the time we made the reservation that they offered "plenty of vegan options," our waiter was abrupt and somewhat rude is telling us that that there were absolutely no vegan entrees, and that all pastas are cooked in chicken stock. Another waiter later gave conflicting information on vegan offerings (after we had ordered). Due to the restaurant's apparent confusion on food ingredients, I would not recommend Alba's for anyone with dietary restrictions or...
