Tomo — Restaurant in Town of Saugerties

Aside from my three personal flavor disappointments (listed at the bottom) everything that I tried was excellent. Fresh tasting fish/eel, well cooked rice, wrapped nicely, good to look at and most importantly it all tastes great. The "Tomo" roll especially was really a surprise of flavors, I don't know if I've tasted something quite like it (there seemed to very heavy flavour of anise in it, but potentially some variant I've not tried,) but whatever it was worked exceptionally well. The rest of my order was "unagi w avacado" roll w personally requested eel sauce, california roll, a "spicy crunchy scallop" roll (aside from no noticeable crunch the flavor was excellent,) and a salmon roll, again, and, again all were of good quality and flavor.

The three negatives to me were the thickness of their eel sauce, which was just less viscous than what I'm used to, the lack of vinegar in the rice, which I'm sure a lot will appreciate although it isn't my personal preference, and the fried rice seemed to lack the smoky quality I appreciate, but all of these are personal preferences and I can definitely still give them a 5 from the quality and overall flavor...

I kept hearing from friends about this sushi place in Saugerties, and how surprisingly good it was. So after about 6 months of living here I though gee, let's see what all the hype is about! Fast forward 15 minutes into the meal and 13 pan flute songs later, the food came out. Super fried gyoza, watery mushy shrimps, and what I thought was impossible, weird over salted miso soup, the sushi itself tasted odd, or off, not to mention the sashimi ended up as a couple of lone pieces of salmon flopped onto the tray with some plastic leaves in there, was honestly was just a terrible experience all around. Afterwards, we both felt incredibly sick, and not soon after I came down with a terrible flu, so yeah, I wouldn't...

This place is hands-down one of my favorite local spots for sushi. The pickup is always lightning fast, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the food is consistently delicious. I’ve been coming here regularly, and they never miss.

The Magic Roll and Amazing Tuna Roll are my go-to orders—true to their names, they’re absolutely packed with flavor and incredibly fresh. Everything is beautifully prepared, and you can tell they care about quality.
