PARENTS BEWARE! Not a kid friendly place! One of the staff members was quite scary to a 4 year old in my party...
Group of us including my nephews (2 and 4) went to the Bee's Cookies and Caked for lunch. Outside and inside decor suggested that the place would be good for kids: with brightly colored table cloths with plastic over top of them, breakfast for lunch and old dolls/toys and best of all... artificial displays of yummy cakes.
While it may look like a place kids would love; we found out that kids were not welcome. Towards the end of the meal the two youngest were done and acting like toddlers having trouble sitting still. My 13 year old got up to go to the bathroom and the four year old insisted on following her. Seconds later I heard a man yelling as I saw my nephew run back to our table. The employee, a gentleman, was yelling at my little four year old nephew that he "had had quite enough of him yelling and running around". While I can understand that the employee had his concerns; I felt it was very inappropriate for the employee to yell at the child without first approaching us directly to handle the situation. While that wasn't enough, the employee continued to shout angrily at the four year old, "Do you hear me? Turn around and look at me in the eye and tell me you understand." He was about to repeat the berating when my sister in law stepped in and said that she had it under control. We said nothing further to the employee and he left us to the rest of our meal.
Thankfully we had finished; so our party (all entirely in shock) hurried to pay the bill. I opted to spend the rest of the meal with the four year old outside so the gentleman employee would not harass the boy further.
Food was equally bad. My 13 year old said it reminded her of an episode of kitchen nightmares. Salad were advertised on the menu as "fruit, carrots and tomatoes on a bed of greens". Showing up at our table we were disappointed to find out they were actually old wrinkly blueberries and 1 strawberry on iceberg lettuce (that looked quite old) and baby carrots and cherry tomatoes right out of a grocery store bag. When I go to a place advertising greens I am expecting arugula or spring mix not old iceberg. I have had nicer, fresher salads at McDonalds for a whole lot cheeped.... and they don't tell at kids there for being kids.
The rest of the table had sandwiches which looked decent. I had planned on sampling my son's sandwich but opted to leave as quickly as...
Read moreWent to Bee's Cafe to claim a prize won on the radio, but I purchased a few things to take home. The cookies were big and delicious. The huge cinnamon but was split by two of us. Light and fluffy, and just the right amount of frosting - perfect bun! I hadn't had a banana split in probably 30 years, but I indulged, yes, indulged. It was delicious! It was the perfect combination of ice cream and toppings, and of course, a banana, topped off with whipped cream and a cherry. It reminded me of the splits we made at Tastee Freez when I was in high school! Old fashioned in every way. The strawberries were whole berries, not a sauce. The new ice cream shop menu is extensive, and they serve Hershey's ice cream! It is a beautiful little cafe - decorated in nostalgic items, cookie jars, and little reminders of the past. I took a good look at the menu at the entrance, and I sure do plan to to back for breakfast or lunch. Owner and server were very friendly and welcoming. Waterloo doesn't presently have much to offer right now in the form of shops, but you don't want to miss this lovely cafe "at...

The food. Eeesh. I wanted to like it. I anticipated liking it. I was starved, so I thought anything they bring me will be devoured. But, alas, the clam chowder was as thick as play dough and it was burned. And I mean it wasn’t subtle. It was straight up burned. The other person at our table was like, yup, that’s a burn.
The Mac-n-cheese was THE WORST I’ve ever had in my 58 years: barely any “cheese” and sad bacon. It was flavorless. The pasta might have well been plain. How much do you not have to care about anything to screw up Mac-n-cheese? Kraft instant is better. It was astoundingly bad.
Katie graciously took it all away, I ordered a burger instead which was good. The bakery items were good. Maybe they just don’t know how to make a few things or aren’t paying attention. I don’t know - but I can’t believe anyone...
