Bona Bona Ice Cream — Restaurant in Town of Somers

I went into the new location over the weekend with the wife (her being a big bona bona fan) and my cousin who has never tried it. We all ordered with the whipped topping and cone on top, and were surprised to find the topping to be not really smooth, almost crunchy like. We know this not to be the norm from bona bona so we just shrugged it off as a bad batch.

We then tried the ice cream and with 3 ice creams being more than 20 dollars with no extra toppings we expected it to be as good as always. Mine and my cousins was fine but the flavor my wife had gotten was almost so melted it was like soup, she got a replacement flavor only to find ice chunks and freezer burn in it. Good ice cream, can not be considered true gelato, ergo the snippy owner's remark of the place's name. Well done! There is softener in the product, similar to 'xanthan gum' which makes it less "real" in my opinion but appealing just for its texture. Also, there were no ice crystals in it, good! I found it not overly sweet, also good and perfect for possible denture owners (not hard or pulling out dental fillings). I liked that the pistachio kept its natural color and flavor. Drove past today and saw they were open, gave them a call to see if they have any dairy-free options for my son. Ryan took his time and listed all that they had today. My son was smiling ear to ear. Having dairy-free choices, let alone multiple ones, is rare.

Took the family there after dinner and we all loved it. So many choices for everyone. Ryan and the 2 young ladies that were working tonight where all great. Amazing service.
