Awesome! I have a lot to say about Hogan's. All good. My first visit was Monday October 11 with four other friends. Outside, the place looks modest, but as soon as you enter, it feels like home. In the best way. It was busy, but every employee is genuinely friendly and helpful. It was difficult to determine who our server was because it seemed every employee was alert to our needs...from the moment we entered until we left. Now let's talk about the food. YUM! I don't think there's space here to talk about everything, so let's just say that whatever you order will be scrumptious. Hogan's bills itself as a diner and it's lengthy menu looks like a diner's menu but I've rarely seen one where everything jumps out at you. So we all had difficulty deciding. The five of us ordered different main dishes, and each of us cleaned our plates and couldn't stop exclaiming how delicious everything was. The "Thanksgiving" dinner! The flounder stuffed with seafood! The broiled flounder with lemon butter! The salmon! Etc. Very generous portions. Very very reasonable prices. The bread basket is delicious warm challah served with very good softened butter The salads are fresh and the dressings are delicious. The most popular desserts were sold out (6 pm!) And I'll tell you why in my next post...I went back two nights later. You just have to go and experience Hogan's...
Read moreAfter it switched from Hogan's it went down hill. The expectation isn't high for any diner but we probably went a good 4x's since they switched. Every time they messed up significantly. The first 2x's i figured they're new. The last 2x's i should have just known better. I had a super confrontational waiter my last visit when the food wasn't what i wanted. I asked for a sliced sirloin and got a Salisbury steak. What blew me away is he was talk about me 10 ft away from me. Even my kids were asking to never come back, on top of my incorrect order (it was fixed by a nice man after the other waiter just wanted to argue) one of my kids had chicken tenders that were a little gooey and cold in the middle. After seeing what i just went through he didnt want to tell the waiter. The other kid loved his omelet so go there for that i guess. Ill pass though. UPDATE* I DID RETURN FOR A PICK UP ORDER. EVERYTHING I ORDERED WAS CORRECT AND ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. I GUESS WHAT I LEARNED IS EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO A BAD DAY EVEN RESTAURANTS AND ITS ONLY FAIR THAT I CHANGE MY RATING. THE PERSON ON THE PHONE WAS SO NICE AND IM A PICKY PERSON AND AM ALWAYS ADDING OR REMOVING INGREDIENTS IN MOST DISHES I ORDER. THEY DID THIS WITH NO ISSUES AND EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. IM HAPPY TO NOW HAVE A LOCAL DINER WITH...
Read moreWe went to Hogan's for a quick breakfast on a Sunday morning. Ordered a fruit salad for me and pancakes and home fries for the husband... all seemed fine until the food actually arrived. Pancakes looked fabulous, but the fruit was a little slimy. Which happens, I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and began picking out the freshest looking pieces. That's when I discovered a moldy grape. Not smushy or a little bruised, but actually growing black mold, clearly infecting all the other fruit. That's not even the worst part. When the waitress came back she asked if I wanted a box to take my fruit (even though I had pushed the bowl to the very edge of table so I didn't have to look at the mold). I said no and pointed out the grape was moldy. She smiled and walked away. Thank god she left the bill so we could beat feet and get out. As we stood to pay I realized why she hadn't cared that my breakfast was moldy... she was parked at the bar chowing down on her own breakfast, clearly more important then my moldy mess of a fruit salad. We told the cashier who wanted to know we didn't tell our waitress, I told her we did, we wished her a good day and headed to Shop Rite to buy actual fresh fruit.
If you like moldy fruit and questionable service this is the...
