Response to the business reply:
I appreciate your swift response. I can see how grand opening weeks are tough but there were definitely more than a few wrinkles in our experience. I wrote my review in the parking lot before I even got my take out home. I live less than 5 minutes from the restaurant. When I got home I was upset to find my food was BARELY warm, the pork in my pork belly buns was hard and grisled and the sesame chicken had become like mush. Thank you for offering to make things right if we come back.
Came in to dine in the first week they opened. They were busy but had open tables. Was told to sit anywhere so we did. Our drink order was taken right away by a very distracted waitress. Then we sat there as others sat after us and got their drinks and ordered. We sat some more as those people got their food. We attempted to get any servers attention and were either rushed past or pretty much ignored. We finally ordered. The people around us that sat after us were leaving. Our dishes came out in piece meal form and not all together. The portions were on the smaller side and the pork fried rice was overly salty. We did not even get one dish of dumplings we ordered. Someone different dropped off our bill and we had to have it corrected. We waited and waited to get the bill corrected. I get opening week is rough but this was a bad experience.
Second try this time with take out: Orders at 7:45 was told it would be ready by 8. Got there at 8:05. Was told it would be ready in less than 10 minutes. The current time is now 8:25. I still don’t have my food. Plenty of people have come and gone since then with take out orders. I just had to go to the counter full of giggling college kids who were too busy making comments about patrons and other staff. I said “it’s been 20 minutes you said 10.” They were all still giggling and said oh here and shoved the food at me. I don’t care how good it is the service is HORRIBLE. I was sitting within clear view of the register. I do not plan on ordering again or going in to eat. The only reason it got one star was because the food was Okay. If I could give no...
Read moreWe stopped by OG Dumpling House for lunch on December 31st, right in the middle of a busy shopping day at Trader Joe's and J. Crew Factory. This Northern Chinese restaurant was an unexpected delight: spacious, tastefully decorated, and offering a calm reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding area.
The food truly impressed us! The Singapore noodles were packed with chicken and shrimp. The steamed pork napa cabbage dumplings were juicy but seemed to be lacking cabbage. The standout was the crab and pork xiao long bao (soup dumplings): piping hot and packed with flavor, though smaller than expected.
Service was efficient and accurate. Despite the restaurant being busy, we were seated immediately, our food arrived as it was ready (which means you start eating at different times), and we weren't rushed. The couple beside us ordered spicy dan dan noodles which looked good but messy! Make sure not to wear a white shirt!
OG Dumpling House is a fantastic spot for a casual yet delicious meal, especially if you’re in the Amherst shopping district. We left full, happy, and already planning to return on our next trip to the area! Highly recommended for dumpling lovers and fans of authentic Northern Chinese cuisine. This Toronto, Canada eater...
Read moreMy wife and I had been wanting to try this place for a while and I took her here on her birthday, we tried 6 different food items (along with a jasmine tea, which was a large pot and only cost $3); Pork & chives dumpling (pan-fried) (very similar to pan fried pork gyoza but better than any gyoza I’ve had), xiao long bao (steamed soup dumpling, very tasty and fun to eat), bbq pork steamed bao (bbq pork dumpling but the dough is fluffy, soft, and sweet), egg custard steamed bao (sweet and very fluffy, a perfect light treat with a nice texture to end a meal), pork belly buns (not my favorite of the night, one of my pieces of pork was very overcooked but the flavor profile was really good so I imagine it’s usually very good), but the star of the show for me was the teriyaki tofu. It was straight up one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten. It was prepared to perfection which takes some serious skill, with a crisp on the outside even though it was sauced, while still staying moist and fluffy inside. Oftentimes as well with tofu it can retain the flavor of the oil and it didn’t, driving the flavor score up even more. Serving staff was also very friendly and welcoming, and they come around often. Highly...
