We had only done one tasting at a different bakery prior to Gourmet Goodies, and we felt pretty underwhelmed by the selections and the lack of customer service. I had seen numerous members on this Facebook group mention Gourmet Goodies – upon visiting their website, we were excited about the options and pricings, so we wanted to experience the cake taste testing. Debra worked with our availability and scheduled us for a Monday afternoon – when we arrived, we were confused by the closed sign, but then the door opened, and Debra warmly welcomed us in with a table set up for us. We had no idea that Gourmet Goodies is typically closed on Mondays, so we were truly touched by her gesture to allow us to experience what they have to offer! We were offered several cake and pastry selections, and when I asked whether they made macarons, she happily brought some out for us to taste and take home! Debra listened to our vision, gave us so much information and suggestions based on our guest count, and even gave us tips and questions to ask our other vendors (e.g., whether our venue’s staff trays pastries or not). She gave us a month to hold our date, giving us time to think before putting down a deposit while feeling reassured that Gourmet Goodies wouldn’t be booked by others during this timeframe. We ended up not looking at any other places and felt so confident going with Gourmet Goodies!
Debra answered all of my questions finalizing our pastry selections leading up to two weeks before our wedding day, and it was amazing that she had several GF and vegan options for our guests! While we did not try most of our pastry selections beforehand, it was certainly a hit among our guests because we didn’t get to eat any of them! Our wedding cake was perfect – it was super moist and flavorful (hazelnut cake with mocha filling) and exactly how we envisioned it and asked for (two-tier cake with lightly textured buttercream frosting and dainty floral decorations from Hopper Hills)! We also had the Gourmet Goodies staff tray our pastries, and they did an amazing job with it (they worked with our pastry table that had our wooden cake tray and place cards I made for the desserts)! Thank you Debra and Gourmet Goodies for being so talented and detail-oriented, and of course for all of the...
Read moreI am writing this review for 2 separate products - so I suppose they average out to a 3, but I feel I am being generous with that number.
My bridal shower cake was ordered by my aunt, I am not sure how much she paid, but I am sure it was a pretty penny. The cake was BEAUTIFUL and tasted fantastic!! I loved it, my mom even called Deb to compliment her on the cake - she wasn't very warm on the phone and seemed like she didn't even remember making the cake or delivering it to Shadow Lake, but, nonetheless, it was a wonderful cake.
My wedding cake came from Gourmet Goodies as a result of a partnership between Gourmet Goodies and my reception venue, the Rochester Plaza Hotel - so I did not have to pay out of pocket because the cake pricing was included with the pricing at my venue. I asked for, what I believed, was a simple design - sparkle fondant with diamond bands around the bottom of each layer of the cake and a fondant monogram with a large, dark purple "M" in the middle and smaller, lighter purple D and K on either side of the M. The cake itself was BEAUTIFUL, from the back. It tasted just as great, if not better than the cake from my bridal shower. However, I am completely dissatisfied and actually embarrassed by how sloppy the monogram looked - I truly hope my guests did not get close enough! Not only did it look sloppily done, with pieces of fondant not having been completed trimmed away from the letters, small silver balls were added to the "M" in the center - I would have welcomed the addition if some of the silver balls were not missing.
I truly wanted to turn my cake around so my guests did not see the sloppy monogram work. I wish Gourmet Goodies would have let me know that the letters would not look elegant and did not go with the look of my cake. They were able to make an executive decision to add the silver fondant balls (probably to coverup a mistake they made) but not to let me know the monogram wouldn't look nice? Just...
Read moreI had no idea this bakery was hidden in Victor! It's definitely been one of my favorite finds of 2020. One of my co-workers recommended it for my parents wedding anniversary party this past fall. They offered such a wide variety of mini pastries, and all of them were delicious! Everyone enjoyed the tray. Since then, we've been back several times for desserts.
Yesterday for the first time, I tried a breakfast sandwich! It was so good, the bread was absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be back for a loaf of that.
Finally, I was able to pick up some hot cocoa bombs. I've been looking for them around the area for weeks! These are by far the best value I've found and the most creative at...
