I had the distinct pleasure of visiting Valentown with my husband and friend a few days ago, and I was astounded by everything! This tour is a MUST for history lovers and for those who appreciate who and what came before us. There was so much to take in that my eyes didn’t know where to begin! I was taken with the thousands of artifacts in the well displayed rooms and how much care was put into the preservation of each piece. We live in Fredonia, which is about two hours away, but I can safely say that the drive was well worth it and I simply cannot wait to go again as there was so much to take in! We had the opportunity to speak with two of the volunteers there and their passion for what they do spills out of them and completely infected me in the best possible way! I’m the kind of person who has a million questions and my tour guide Erica not only had an answer to everything, she went above and beyond to ensure our visit was wonderful by focusing in on the pieces that interested us the most and allowing us to move past items that were of lesser interest which I appreciate immensely. It’s my understanding that the beautiful building is in need of funding for repairs in several areas- I feel compelled to say that if you are like me and feel as though preserving our past is dire for our future enrichment (especially for the younger generations), giving a little more than the admission price as a donation goes such a long way in helping these incredible volunteers keep the past alive! Run, don’t walk, to Valentown with your friends and family for a day...
Read moreWe moved to 275 high st. Victor N.Y. in 1984. Owned by Sheldon, proprietor of the museum, a very nice guy. My wife and I were to get married in Sept. 1986. in the back yard (acroos the street from the museum) The morning of our wedding it rained to beat the band. An outdoor wedding was out. So the lady's went to Shelon and asked if we could use the museum for our wedding, of course Sheldon said sure. The gals ran over, did a quick arrangement of the main floor and the wedding went foreword. The rain of course stopped and the sun came out, but we were the first in history to get married in the museum. We had been through the museum many times before.... never thought we would get married there. Had a guest of the museum vidio the ceremony and mail a copy to us.A really awesome museum and wedding chaple. Thanks Fisher family for the...
Read moreI went here with my boys to expose them to some local history. Half the staff was talking me out of it saying its long and boring.?! I went in anyway knowing that i would probably have to leave early. Yes i was warned, but I do feel it was overly thorough. But to each their own. But they should cosider an abbreviated version for kids (so we can inspire them early). Or maybe just for someone who doesn't want to do 20 min on every piece thats in there. I dont the point is to make people...
