Thanksgiving Day tradition.at McGreivey's!
PeterPeter
Came to McGreivey's for a delayed Mother's Day meal this week. We were greeted and sat immediately, and that's where the fast service ended. Half of our table got their drinks after the appetizers arrived, despite being ordered well before the appetizers. I ordered a Manhattan for my appetizer, and had no complaints. One guest ordered a cup of the Buffalo chicken chowder, but received the larger bowl size instead (thankfully, we were only charged for a cup). We believed one of the cheeses in the chowder was the culprit behind the overly acidic taste. Unfortunately the chowder was not well received by the person ordering or by others, including myself, who had a spoonful. Moving on to the entrees, we had steaks of varying degrees of done-ness. I ordered mine rare, and rare it was! Others ordered theirs medium and well, and they were cooked accordingly. No complaints with the steaks, everyone who ordered steak enjoyed their meal. However, one of us ordered the Buffalo Mac & Cheese, and was very unhappy the way it turned out. The same acidic nastiness that plagued the chowder made an appearance in the mac and cheese as well. In short, only get a steak here and expect a delay with your drinks.

As an Irish Pub, I expected pub food but it was much more. The menu does feature standard pub food but it also has some creative entree selections as well as daily specials presented to us by our waitress. It was a toss up whether to get one of the delectable specials or Death Wish Pork Chop from the reg. entree menu.(Death Wish is a name of a local coffee and in this case, used as part of the prep for the chop.) My final choice was a rigatoni special made with sausage, roasted eggplant, onions and peppers in a marinara sauce. Delish! Enough for me to take 1/2 home. The table of 8 also had complimentary baskets of Irish soda bread...crisp on the outside, soft on the in. Yum. Waitstaff was efficient and friendly. For a table of 8 our waitress had help serving our meals. Also, be aware, a larger table has the gratuity included. Prices are standard and on par with other fine dining area restaurants. Great outside seating area with high walls for privacy from the busy streets. It was a perfect late summer evening for dining outside. We all enjoyed the meal in the fresh air. I can't wait to try this for a future choice for Friday night date night.

I ordered online, possibly that was my first mistake coming here. I ordered the Sirloin and Shrimp Scampi. I ordered it medium rare. I arrived to get my food on time and waited for 5 minutes to get noticed then 10 minutes total until i actually got my food. I was with a companion and had to wait another few minutes before he got noticed and then waited until he got his food. I also got an appetizer buy the way, I've always been a fan artichoke dip so I got that.

The shrimp was cold. Maybe I'm just unfamiliar with how this is normally served but it was cold. My steak was burnt. -burnt- on the top and bottom. The inside was more well done than anything. The garlic sauce is just splashed inside not mixed with anything, wasn't drizzled on the steak, probably just poured in with the shrimp before plopping the steak right on. The artichoke dip is just that, pure artichokes that are so big they break the chips. Some spots have smaller pieces that are easier to scoop up but some were so large I just opted to not have anymore. There were 5 shrimps and size of an average potatoe steak that was burnt. Paying over 30 dollars for those two items in such a condition left me compelled to share what I went through. I don't think I'd ever want to come back honestly. I could never recommend this place since this was just not a pleasant experience. I didn't try their drinks or look at their selection since I was ordering online and again, maybe that was my fault.

I'm sure ordering in could be a great experience since you can just take the plate back but as it stands I'd tell others to never...

I would like to start off by saying the food and the staff were both great. My family had paid for a buffet and started an open tab at the bar and the people on staff were excellent. Monday afternoon my family all came here as paid for and planned after we had just buried our dear brother, uncle and friend minutes prior to celebrate his life. Later in the event a man came into the room to which no one recognized with to-go containers helping themselves to some food. Someone in our group asked who this person was and rudely and abruptly he said he was “the owner”. I cannot fathom walking into a celebration of life gathering while it is still going on and taking food out of your customers portion as they had paid for it. We were not allowed to take any of the food that we had paid for home with us, however the owner of the establishment can come in and take food to go while a celebration of life is going on, all because they’re the owner? To not be able to wait until the event was over to then go and grab food is beyond me. I can confidently say the 30 plus people that were at that event will never ever enter McGreivey’s establishment ever again. We are all from the area, we will be telling every single person how disappointed and how arrogant of a person the owner of this restaurant is. You should be ashamed of yourself feeling so entitled to barge in and not even introduce yourself or even wait or ask for food that was paid for by your customers. We will be recommending every person to never go to this establishment again. I hope that was worth the...

This was a disaster from start to finish !! A wedding celebration a party of 12 a $700 check ,The drinks came out with the appetizers, for starters , salads were soon to follow , ordered a Caesar salad with blue cheese on the side which to me means no Caesar dressing on the salad well guess I was wrong , order our meals and wanted bread with dinner was told we only have Irish soda bread , wait the clams and bruschetta came with toasted bread ??? We have nooo other bread ! Waitress comes out with dinner 2 plates fall onto the floor not even a minute later the 2 dinners that had fallen were replaced wow that was quick under the heat lamps pre-made is all I can figure !! The waitress then comes out with 3 drinks we didn’t order and says it was an extra ticket at the bar we were charged for them we didn’t order them idk what that was . So after all this excitement I thought I should talk to the owner . This was not a good idea he was the most abrupt , intimidating person I have ever encountered. He said I AM THE ONE THAT LOST MONEY HERE I LOST 2 DINNERS ON THE FLOOR, he proceeded to step towards me and ask so what is you problem at that point I was basically put in my place by a bully of a man in front of all his workers. The cheese board yeah it’s a vegetable platter with one cheese on it , the scallop frozen salmon risotto was mush and had a tinty taste to it so that wasn’t eaten but that couldn’t be addressed at any point , he wasn’t having it !! This place is serving food that is overpriced and tasteless. A horrible...
