The only reason why this place is still in business is because of unsuspecting tourists they swindle on a daily basis. I replay this sad encounter over and over again, wishing that I would have refused to pay for the pitiful lobster roll they brought me, or have been tipped off by the dingy, yard sale living room I had to walk through to get to the dining area. This was our first experience with lobster rolls, and had it not been for C-Ray's redeeming food (another restaurant we had dinner at), we would have left Maine not ever having tasted real Maine lobster.
This place was unfortunately, the place we picked to have lunch at, out of all the places we could have had lunch. We walked into the restaurant, and found that it was really a dingy gift shop with old knick-kacks, Beanie Babies (what the hell?) and dusty, faded post cards. The shop looked like a serious yard sale of junk. Tables in this room were strewn with receipts and other debris. We were sat immediately, and ordered two lobster rolls. I ordered the hot lobster and my boyfriend ordered the cold roll. The rolls were absolutely tiny, and came in tiny little buns, that were actually folded pieces of some kind of toast. The roll fell apart almost immediately after my first bite. Additionally, they did not come with any kind of side. There was a pitiful little soggy lettuce thing on the bottom of the roll. These rolls cost $16 and $18!! We left hungry and pissed off that we got swindled like that.
Please, please do your research before you eat out around the area. Had we looked up this place before eating here, we would have steered clear. Our experience is not unique here. There are tons of other bad reviews of this place all over the internet, with pictures of the ugly restaurant and tiny...
Read moreThis year I was actually able to get to eat there. Last year we went in to get take out food at 7:30 (they advertise open to 8PM) and was told we could not get take out food but we could go in and eat. Who says that!!!! Eat in instead of take out near closing time. Needless to say we left and went elsewhere. Then on another night tried again to "go in to eat" at 7:15 and was told they were closing. No service tonight.
Just before leaving Maine - thought we would try again - third time a charmer! Charmer is right - we went in at 4 pm - was seated and we ordered. Sierra Mist had an unusual taste! My son ordered buffalo wings - they were just fried chicken wings - no spicy taste or sauce - when we commented on it - it went ignored. The fish burger was awful. I had scallops and fried onion rings. My food was good. Also had the clam chowder - definitely NOT the best that I have had in Maine. The old lady that seemed to own the place had a terrible attitude, a couple came in to "take out food" HOW DARE THEY - I am sure they felt like 2 inches tall after to got done - saying her son would not have done it for her (she sent out a younger and prettier girl waitress). She was more concerned about two buses coming with students - made room for them and when they couldn't all fit in the room she wanted she near panicked. If you can't handle the buses say so!!!! Oh also I had to wipe our chairs off that had grease from previous eaters. Most restaurants do that as they clean up after guests. Minus 5 stars - I will NEVER go there again and will not recommend going there to anyone who will listen.
I actually had to put in one star so that I could actually post this!!!!! Absolute...
Read moreWent there Friday 10/12/18, I heard the place must have been great at one point, but definetely not up to par with the bill and quality of food. First off we waited a while before we even got served the drinks, the waitress looked tired or not interested in being there. We ordered Lobster Stew which was like a chowder, it didn't look so great when it was served, it had all this oil floating on top of the bowl, the lobster tasted good, but I left the broth. Then I wanted corn on the cob, I was told that they didn't have it because it's the end of the season. And for dessert I wanted the coconut custard pie, which again they didn't have any, I ordered blueberry pie, it was ok but I'm not a fan of such pie. The worst of all, was that my Mom of 85 years old, ate all of that lobster stew (chowder/broth) I say that because the soup only had lobster pieces and the broth with the reddish oil floating on top, she had the worse evening which turned into a weekend with diarrhea, she pretty much had food poisining. It ruined our weekend in Bar Harbour & vacinity. We had to go to the nearest pharmacy & get advise from the pharmacist on what to give an 85 year old woman who's very delicate with medications. We gave her Imodium which made her feel better by the next day. I think that not only it was the end of the season, but the owners seem to be tired of the restaurant business. I will never go back, expensive and almost ended up in the hospital with...
