Stopped in today for the first time. Ordered a BYO sandwich, side of potato salad, and a cup of soup. For my drink I got the shaken espresso.
Let's start with the sandwich. I opted for sourdough, roast beef, havarti, horseradish, grainy mustard, kraut, and carmelized onions. This isn't your typical roast beef. It's thick sliced and so tender and delicious. The bread was perfectly soft and chewy. The kraut though....AMAZING. It was real kraut, not the canned garbage. All of the ingredients were just so fresh and delicious.
The Country Potato soup was less creamy than I was expecting but it made up for that in FLAVOR!!! The smokey bacon flavor was present in every bite. Nice chunks of potato and the rich, thickened stock was perfect for a chilly day.
The potato salad....Super flavorful mustard potato salad with fresh herbs that really took it to another level. I feel like it would have benefited from a splash of pickle juice or vinegar to give it the "bite" it was missing (in my opinion). But I do prefer a tangy potato salad. That being said, it was still very good.
The pickle that came with the sandwich was perfectly crunchy and briney.
Now to the best part..... The Iced Shaken Espresso. I ordered this because I saw a facebook comment of someone stating they'd go to war for the Shaken Espresso. Well after having it myself... absolutely. It was perfectly sweet, but not too sweet, just the right amount of cinnamon. I don't ususally get oat milk, but I didn't want to make any modifications. And it was creamy and delicious. I will get this every time.
The cafe space was warm and inviting! The staff... was so incredibly kind and attentive. I asked if they could toast/heat my sandwich and they were happy to. I sat at a table to await my to-go order and they brought my drink directly to me, which was incredibly thoughtful. Then once my food was ready they brought that over too! The soup was in a paper bowl with a lid and they took the care to tape the lid. The sandwich and potato salad was in a little brown box and was packaged with care. They provided a soup spoon (bonus points for an actual soup spoon), fork, and napkins and put everything in a cute little brown paper bag. Will definitely be adding this to my...
Read moreThe opening of Bricklayer here was bittersweet for me, as I frequented the previous resident, Cornerstone Coffee. However, there is no possible way to be disappointed in having bread like this so close to home. It is simply incredible. It is tender with just the right amount of chewiness, and the crust may be more flavorful than the bread. I have only tried a few of their other offerings. The breakfast quiche I had was served still somewhat cold, so it wasn't my favorite, but the greens with a house made dressing were actually so good, I didn't care about the quiche. I recently tried the pumpkin soup and it was one of the best soups I've ever had. Velvety smooth with a balanced spice to it, and it was garnished with tiny cubes of fresh apple. Unfortunately, the container was only about halfway filled, but the piece of toast drenched in butter helped make up for my sadness in not having more soup to eat. And not to disappoint those those who need gluten free options, the gluten free cheesecake made me question if it was GF, it was that good (and big enough for two people). The coffee and drinks also are high quality, like everything else. Regardless, this is a gem of a place with bread and other food to rival anything in the state and beyond, truly. I'm thankful they opened right...
Read moreOk if anyone knows me I do not like change or trying anything new, I have to admit I was nervous to try out this place cause well I never tried it and I didn’t want to buy a coffee and not like it cause I’m picky about my iced coffee. I also was a little heartbroken and felt a little salty when cornerstone closed but sometimes when one door closes another one opens and in this case it was good in my opinion. Cornerstone was great, the owners were called to start a new chapter in their lives and I’m sure many of us was curious to try the new. Bricklayer already had a place i believed but I havent tried it till they moved closer to where I’m at. I have to give their caramel macchiato a 5 star outta 5, I’m not sure if that’s what they call it but basically what it is and the sitting area was just as good, filled with people and I dig it. Kiddo says the baked good he tried was a 4 outta 5 but the way he scarfed it down looked at least a 4.5 at least. Bailey thank you for recommending the iced caramel coffee, you never steer...
