I'm a foodie and if I get a recommendation or information about new restaurant then me and wife generally look for the first opportunity. One of my friends just spoke about a new place which has opened up in Troy. We immediately planned our visit the same day.
When we went there, there are lot of people waiting in this small lobby for their turn to get in. It seems chaotic but when we checked inside, they had a good system where someone was maintaining a list of all guest. We put our name. When I spoke to the guy, I was told that it will take an hr. We got worried, we drove away but to our surprise we got a call within 10-15 mins and we weren't far away. We immediately went back.
The restaurant has recently. opened. So they had clearly mentioned that there is limited menu. Anish was helping us place the order. He explained very patiently what they have and what they do not. Was impressed how much he has remember is no there.
It was hard to pick what we should. One thing my. friend told. was Honest is very famous in India and especially. Gujarat location for it's paan bhaji. We saw some south Indian named sandwiches. It seems every. table had some sandwich. We decided to go with Baahubali Sandwich and Dahi Sev poori.
We then immediately. ordered a honest. special paav bhaji also. The food came out pretty. quickly. The Dahi Sev Poori was very delicious and has ticked all the boxes for the taste.
The Baahubali sandwich was as the name says, giant with grated Amul Cheese. It had a layer of some paneer sabji and we opted for one without the jam. This was also very good.
The paav bhaji had a very. different flavors. Seems like Honest has their own spices. We also decided to order Honest Special Pulav. Pulav was also very good and tasty.
We ended with a dessert and got malai and mango kulfi. Overall we were really satisfied with the food, ambience and the staff.
Highly recommend this place. It is a really tough competition to Neehee's. But the place honest has got it good but it is not at all spacious. Hopefully they get to expand the place...
Read moreMy new favorite place! One of the few places you can still get a whole meal for less than $15. Very reasonable prices. I love that this place is egg free and has excellent vegan dishes. Fast service, clean, well-lit atmosphere. The staff is very friendly! They don’t mind answering a bunch of questions, telling you what everything is and making recommendations.
I’ve never had a bad meal here. All the food is delicious, incredibly flavorful and filling! They even have some American fusion friendly dishes like Indian loaded fries (honey chili potato), pizza, noodles and fried rices. Put this place on your radar and enjoy trying something different. Highly recommend!
Some things I’ve had: Bahubali Sandwhich- Incredible, must try! Pulav - Indian stir fried rice, very buttery. Bhaji Pav loaded with onion and garlic flavor wow! Pani puri- popular street food, not bad but I’ve had better. Samosa chaat- chaat is seasoning- this is a potato samosa topped with sauces and seasonings to jazz it up Aloo tikka chaat- Aloo is potato- fried potato patty topped with plenty of sauces, yogurt and garnishes with cilantro and seasoning. Read moreWent there on opening day, thinking I would try some good Indian food, which is hard to find in the Detroit area. Well, the restaurant does look nice, but thats because it's new, the food was a little extra salty atleast in the vada pav and the pav bhaji. I also ordered 2 mango lassi's that were great, and a kattappa sandwhich which was also good, and a plate of samosa which was ok. That being said, the restaurant staff doesn't seem to remember orders, because I received my vada pav first and that was after I waited 15 minutes then another 5 minutes later I got the pav bhaji, wondering what happened to the mango lassi I ordered I asked and they went to get it. After sitting for another 10 minutes I got my sandwhich and after sitting for a while after finishing my food I asked about my samosas. Almost everything had to be followed up on for food. I almost forgot, they only have the first page of the menu available, I was told the full menu will be available in the next couple of weeks. When some of the other items come out maybe I'll update my review. I used to live close to a Honest in the Chicago area and used to go there a lot, and it's very different experience so far, hopefully it gets better. Update Oct 17th: now that more of the menu is available, I was able to order some Dosa specifically the Dabang and Masala Dosa and the veg hakka noodles, those were very very good. The dosa was crisp the potatoe fillings were flavorful, the chutneys and sambar tasted fresh compared to some places near by, which always have subpar chutneys and sambar. The noodles were flavorful, but my only criticism about them, is I wish it was a larger serving size. Next time I hope they have the punjabi dishes available so I can test out everything. Mango lassi was just as great as it was on...
