The remodel looks visually nice but it feels more crowded than ever and the furniture is so cheap. The quality has gone incredibly downhill and they have changed the recipe for their ice cream - which was their best menu option. The matcha drinks are very chalky and not very flavorful anymore. The new employees have no appreciation for how to make quality matcha and it shows in the substandard drinks. It’s not hard to make a good matcha at all which is why I’m so disappointed now.
I was a huge fan in the past, specifically for their ice cream but now even that isn’t good anymore. The new recipe is very icy, not creamy and lacks the same flavor. Everything is cheap now, don’t be deceived with the renovation. It’s so upsetting considering how expensive this place has gotten as well.

This is THE place to go for matcha lovers. No ever place compares with their matcha lattes. Starbucks could never. My only complaint is that I wish they were able to make their drinks with milk alternatives. I assume they have their drinks premade in batches or something since the employees said they were unable to accommodate for a milk alternative.
But if you’re a true matcha lover, this is the only cafe that serves only the highest quality matcha. I love their lattes, both iced and hot, and their soft serves. I hope they also expand to matcha flavored pastries in the future.
I also wish their menu was easier to navigate as it is a bit confusing for new customers. There should be better explanations on the menu for those who aren’t so familiar with the matcha...
Read moreMatcha Maiko has been a fave for myself and my family for a few years now. We were so bummed to see they had closed. As soon as I saw a post saying they were open we quickly ran to our fave spot but to my disappointment and dismay the place just looked.....white washed. They were closed for what feels like 6 months continuously pushing the date back only to open and it just looked like some white woman's pinterest dreams came to life in the most bland ways. All the games and fun were removed. The Japanese amulets are all gone. No new ice cream flavors were featured. It desperately screams we want to be a cafe but the old menus are still up while a $40 grand espresso machine is nice, shiny and in the front. Very underwhelming as there are already so many other local cafes to visit. The new set up is crowded with random basket plants in the middle of the floor. IDK the vibe their going for but I can say the good old ice cream did not let me down. I think them being closed for so long left me hoping for more. I've also visited other locations in the US and the vibes are always fun. Now the Troy location seems stuffy......Either way the best Matcha soft serve on the planet is still at this place and the staff is always nice...
Read morePremium Matcha Café Maiko in Troy is definitely worth checking out if you’re into sweet treats and flavorful drinks. We stopped in and tried a custard, Oreo, and ube taiyaki — all three for just $8.50, which felt like a great deal. They came out warm and fresh, and each one had its own vibe. The custard was smooth and creamy, the Oreo was super fun with a bit of crunch, and the ube had that rich, nutty sweetness that’s hard to beat.
We also grabbed a slice of cheesecake and wow — it was amazing. Super creamy, not too heavy, and just the right amount of sweetness. It really stood out and might have been our favorite part of the visit.
The drinks were just as good — full of bold flavors and not overly sweet. Whether you go for something matcha-based or another specialty, there’s something for everyone on the menu.
The vibe inside is really chill, with a clean and cozy setup that makes it a nice spot to hang out or take a break. Overall, Maiko delivered on taste, quality, and value. We’ll definitely be back for more taiyaki and cheesecake!
P.S. I would highly recommend better...
