UPDATE, 8/29/2016:. It only gets worse. Upon revisiting the establishment and feeling guilty about my previous review, the brigade somehow made the astonishing move to take bad to worse. I proceeded to wait for an hour and a half for an order of 15 wings (on WING NIGHT, mind you) to emerge from the depths of the bowels of the kitchen. If it weren't for the shining, attentive barmaid Deanna finally asking if I ever received my wings, I'd still be gathering dust waiting on a failed brigade. It is noted this dismal performance happens in absence if the usual GM who stands over the brigade, which tells me that Corporate, once again, is to blame with their cheap expectations and even cheaper labor. The wings were ultimately comped to avoid further embarrassment to the wretched home office that should be ashamed of themselves for allowing Middling American Middle Management to prosper at our expense, the informed Trojan. Further updates WILL BE forthcoming regarding this sorry state of affairs.
8/18/2016: It is difficult to write this review. I first started coming to this location some years ago, when The RR initially took my breath away. So many TVs! So many beers on tap!! It was a fantasy football junkie's dream come true, and I was in heaven. For Sunday Funday, it's hard to beat this spot, especially as Old Man Winter settles in over Capitaland.
Indeed, RR is THE spot if you're just looking for a boat load of drinks and decent wifi for football Sundays. Their "Frequent Flier" card is a huge bonus for a barfly like me who lives around the corner, giving essentially 10% cash back. Plenty of liquor choices, and a respectable draft entourage, and this from a craft home brewer.
That said... The food. Imma say it: the food SUCKS. No excuses, no "but for a hotel bar, we're awesome..." Nope. You SUCK. When I order wings, and they appear a mere five minutes later, that means there's a whole tray of already fried wings you pulled out of the fridge/freezer, and you think so little if me, the pub patron, you heat them again in tired oil, toss them in a pit of mediocre sauces (compared to now mainstream BWW) and place them before me, the greatful patron.
Except I'm not greatful. I'm outraged. I see the kitchen right now, a lazy, slapdash line brigade from which air escapes like a balloon when their GM isnt standing over them. The food is LAZY. Lazy and cheap. It's good enough when I'm plowed, but I have to be to eat it. It's all microwaves and friers here, no cooking.
It's not the brigade's fault. It's their corporate masters, is my guess. This is Troy. This is New York, not Nebraska. You can't serve this swill here. Not when The Ale House down the hill less than a mile can blow your head off with the "atomic" wings, The Ruck could make a vegan hipster cry with joy when eating their wings, The defunct El Dorado invented $0.25 wing night, and newcomer Dinosaur BBQ simply blows your lazy slop off the line.
You could be so great, RR, you could rule with an iron fist... And we would be loyal! Not because of member cards or because of the hotel... But because you took the time to understand NY wing craft, and I speak as a Buffalo native who's been to Anchor, Rix, Capelli's, Antonio's, Bar-Bill... Learn the craft.
If you fry them, fresh, every time, we will come... I promise you. Which is why I'm going somewhere else until you get it...
Read moreI intended to share this review last week, but I was caught up with my daughter's graduation. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the service from Mary, the to-go specialist. After a long day of errands and preparing for family visits, my husband and I were eager to grab a meal at Sports Recovery Bar and Grill, a place I used to recommend during my time at Marriott in the East Greenbush area.
Around 9:30 PM, my husband entered the restaurant and asked Mary for a menu, inquiring if they were still serving food. She confirmed they were. After reviewing the menu for about seven minutes, we decided what to order. However, when we called to place our order, Mary informed us that they had stopped serving food at 9:30 PM. This was quite confusing since she had just given us a menu and said it was fine to order.
I insisted on speaking with a manager after Mary reiterated that they stopped taking orders at 9:30 PM, even though we were parked right outside. When I called back, Mary recognized my husband and repeated the same information. After being put on hold, I decided to go inside, only to be greeted again by Mary. I asked her why she had come outside only to place us on hold. She claimed she couldn't find the manager.
To my surprise, the manager eventually walked out of the bathroom while we were still talking to Mary. She was pleasant and clarified that they stop taking orders at 10 PM. This kind of customer service is unacceptable, and it raises concerns about how individuals are treated, particularly people of color.
This was the worst experience I’ve had at Sports Recovery Bar and Grill, and we will not be returning. I want to make it clear that the assistant general manager, Francis, was very helpful in trying to rectify the situation, and there was another waitress who provided excellent service. It’s evident that Mary could learn a lot from her colleagues about delivering quality customer service. I want to also state how the manager needed to tell Mary to step away because she wanted to be argumentative and combative after treating us in...
Read moreI have been here before and had issues with order accuracy, but I thought "Why not give them another try?". After all, it's conveniently located in the hotel where I was staying. Big Mistake.
I placed a pickup order and went down to pick it up. I ordered a flatbread and 5 wings...nothing too complicated. When I get down there, I went up to the bar and let them know I was there to pick up an order. The lady went to check on my order and I was told that it would be another 15 minutes or so. No worries. It's the dinner hour, after all.
I then saw a pizza box-like container and an order of wings pop up in the kitchen area where orders are picked up. I thought to myself "Perfect! My order's ready". I kid you not, TEN MORE MINUTES looked at or touched that food. When they finally brought it to me, I had to ask for the blue cheese that they forgot for the wing order. When I got back to my room, they had also given me the wrong flat bread. I was too tired and hungry after a day of travelling to go back down there to ask for a replacement.
This place has some management issues. I will not be giving them another chance.
UPDATE: Earlier this evening, I received a phone call from Bill, the restaurant manager who apologized and stated that he was going to issue a refund for my order. He was very sincere and I really do hope that they work out their issues. I travel to the area quarterly for work and it would be awesome if this place could step up their game. Most of us that travel for work with a full schedule can probably appreciate convenience. Since this place is located in the Hilton Garden Inn where I usually stay, it would be great to be able to count on it as an option for...
