I've had food from here a few times, and never had a good experience. I dined in once, and the food was alright but the table was sticky which was incredibly off-putting.
The sushi is mediocre, honestly.
I ordered delivery once through GrubHub and that was the worst experience of my food life. My friend and I ordered General Tso chicken and bubble tea. The ETA was about 45-55 minutes from that time; about an hour and a half later we still hadn't gotten our food so we called and they straight up said they had forgotten about our order. Then, when the food finally arrived over two hours after we had ordered it, the delivery guy called before he had actually arrived and just said "come out now". I did, and I was stuck waiting in the cold for a few mins when I had expected to just grab my food and go back inside. When he pulled up, he didn't even actually park the car to hand me my food. Nope, he just put his foot on the brake and accidentally lifted off at one point. He didn't even get out of the car, I had to lean in across the passenger seat which kind of made me really uncomfortable.
And that's not even the end of the bad experience. The bubble tea a) was the complete wrong flavor, and b) didn't have bubbles? It was just regular tea. We called back to complain and the lady answered and said "oh i made the wrong one" like she just blatantly made the wrong flavor. This is not okay - what if I had an allergy or something?
So then, about half an hour later, they sent the same guy who doesn't actually stop to deliver my food and luckily it was the right thing this time.
So today my friend and I decided we would give Red and Blue one last chance and ordered dumplings and bubble teas. This time, they arrived on time, but the bubble teas did not have tapioca pearls. Instead, they had some weird jelly thing in them that was not what we had gotten before or expected. We called back asking what it was, and the woman who answered said it was jelly. When asked why it wasn't tapioca pearls like expected/usual, she said they were very busy and ran out of the tapioca pearls.
THIS IS NOT OKAY. You can NOT substitute things without informing your customer, especially because I would not have ordered had I known this wasn't available. I kind of lectured her about how we should have been informed if what we ordered wasn't available rather than just been given the wrong item, and she seemed like she got all nervous and flustered and said we could have free bubble teas on another day. However, she never took our names, or gave us her name so I don't think that was a legitimate offer and no attempt was actually made to rectify the situation. She's really lucky that neither of us had any sort of allergic reaction because it's really dangerous to make substitutions like this in the food industry.
Basically, waste of money, horrible customer service for mediocre (and often...
Read moreI stopped in for a weekend lunch at the small, quiet 5-seat sushi bar (photo), located as a small part of this restaurant's several eating/drinking areas. The area was relatively brightly lighted, with limited decor, and thankfully no television. The other end of the bar was the extremely busy hostess / takeout / delivery station which seemed to account for at least half of the business during my visit.
As I glanced over the menu, I smirked as I found "American Chinese" as a menu heading for the staples found in most other Chinese restaurant, before I ordered soup, a couple of maki and a handful of nigiri. The sushi chef and the servers were quick and polite, and I was presented with a pleasant enough soup. The chef also presented me with an amuse bouche of a thinly sliced hamachi and jalapeno with a pepper marinade (photo) - appealing enough to the eye, but unfortunately, the marinade completely overwhelmed the taste of the fresh fish.
The main was plated with a few small decorations carved from carrots. The rest of the plating could have been a bit more exact. The rice was lightly seasoned, and the maki was not bad, though I found the not-spicy salmon to be mostly "crunch" and much more finely minced than I prefer. For the nigiri, the saba could have used a better presentation, as it appeared to fall apart on the plate, and the ikura could have been a bit fresher, as it did not have the little "pop" when biting into very fresh salmon roe. I believe that the tamago tasted as if it was frozen and then thawed - that may have accounted for the delay and additional plate (photo). The restaurant seems to be busy enough that they could easily cook eggs every day.
But overall, despite these minor irritations, I enjoyed my meal, and will probably stop by again...
Read moreThis is a Japanese style sushi bar run by some Chinese people (the kanji on the menu is in Chinese instead of Japanese) serving sushi, a few American-Chinese dishes. For 2 drinks, 4 of the basic maki rolls, and a dessert my girlfriend and I spent $60. You could easily spend more by ordering fancier sushi rolls.
The sushi was absolutely excellent. The rice was just right, fish was of excellent quality. Odd enough as it is to mention this, the vegetable roll was out of this world. I've never had a vegetable roll that was really worth mentioning before, this one was good. We had mochi ice cream for dessert which was par for the course, tasty. The bar made some very strong gin and tonics, and we were served pint size drinks by default, which were $9 a piece, so be careful ordering drinks. The staff was acceptable, but in no way remarkable. The decor was fairly standard for a brand new restaurant, a few decorations but nothing interesting. Unfortunately, the window was slightly cracked open to allow the cord for a sign outside, and as it's december that lead to a really chilly spot. Overall, the quality of the sushi makes it worth coming back.
Edit: This place has been through more than a few different owners since I first wrote this review. I now have nothing positive to say. Meals are mostly rice, dumplings are overly fatty and expensive, and much of the food we ordered was simply bad. We won't be...
