🌲🍻 Modern Mountain Gem – 50~50 Brewing Company, Truckee 🍻🌲 Just had an incredible visit to 50-50 Brewing Company in the heart of Truckee, and it checked all the boxes. This place is a modern mountain-town gem—blending rustic charm with a fresh, clean aesthetic. The ambience strikes that perfect balance: not too loud, not too quiet—just the right hum of laughter, clinking glasses, and kitchen energy. You’re surrounded by working brewery tanks right behind the bar, which adds a fun industrial vibe to the cozy mountain setting. 🍺🔥 The beer list is as solid as it gets. As Truckee’s OG brewery (est. 2007), they’ve made a name for themselves with award-winning brews like the Eclipse barrel-aged stouts, and a rotating tap of IPAs, pilsners, and more. 🍻 Now for the food… I went with the Truckee Burger, medium rare—cooked to perfection. Topped with fresh pickles, lettuce, tomato, and melty pepper jack cheese, plus a little extra mayo on the side that arrived promptly. Jess ordered the Donner Party Burger, a barbecue-style beast, and said the sauce was absolutely on point. 🍔🔥 Major shoutout to our server, Betty—she was running what looked like way more tables than most could handle, but she slayed it. Friendly, efficient, and cool under pressure. ✨ This isn’t your sleepy mountain brewpub—it’s a lively, well-run spot where locals and travelers alike come together for great food, beer, and service. We’ll 100% be back next time we’re in Truckee. 🙌 #5050BrewingCo #TruckeeEats #ModernMountainGem #CraftBeerLovers #MountainBreweryVibes #TruckeeFoodie #BurgerGoals #SierraNevadaEats #TruckeeLife #SupportLocalBreweries #BeerAndBurgers #RenoTahoeEats #NorCalBeerScene #BettySlayedIt So just adding the pizza and making a short review would probably not do it justice because it was absolutely delicious but that’s what we gotta do. Try the pizza. Definitely try the pizza.

Every time I go on a trip, I dream of finding a venue like this. A six hour trip to Reno isn’t very long, but finding a magical rest stop with good food and beer, that you can deem a ‘must stop’ for future trips is akin to seeing a unicorn. Obviously the surrounding forest adds to the charm, as does the wooden structures surrounding Fifty Fifty. Stepping out of your car, you’re hit by the quality of the clean air and amazing beauty and it puts you in such a peaceful state of mind. My colleagues and I said simultaneously, “I could live here happily the rest of my life.” God bless Truckee. Fifty Fifty Brewing is a restaurant as well as brewery. They have some of the top rated beer in the Sacramento/Truckee/Reno area, having won medals for many of their brews. Lots of swag available if you feel like representing, plus beer to go for the responsible drivers. Restrooms were clean and stocked. Staff was incredibly friendly, creating a small town atmosphere where people care for own another, now each other’s lawns, and neighborhoods where doors can be left unlocked. The food? I don’t even know how to describe the deliciousness of the burger I had. It had cream cheese and jalapeños on top of a burger patty so thicc it would make Kim Kardashian envious. I ordered it as an experiment, expecting to be disgusted, but from rhetorical first bite I was mesmerized. I’m salivating while writing this review, reminiscing the kaleidoscope of flavors. My two colleagues were equally overly satisfied with their meals. The beer we had were awesome and paired well with the meals.

Came here after a day of skiing to grab some light bites and a few beers. Really enjoyed our time here! The beers: We had a tripel, a porter, and a peanut butter stout. The tripel was potent, both in ABV and taste. I’m not a huge Belgian beer fan, but I could appreciate the complexity of this one. My wife, who prefers a good Belgian, loved it. The porter was smooth and malty, really good. And the peanut butter stout was honestly the best peanut butter stout I’ve had. A nice subtle peanut butter flavor, creeping up on your palate from the back end, with a full bodied stout coming through from top to bottom. It is very well done. We would have loved to have tried some barrel aged brews, but after the 3 beers, we were ready for the hot tub back at the hotel! Food: Just appetizers for us, so I can’t comment too much on the food. We enjoyed the garlic fries, a pretzel, and my daughter had the kids mac and cheese. The mac and cheese might have been our favorite - great cheese sauce. Space/staff: Quaint little space. Perfect for the cold evening we were there. Fairly crowded, which is great, but I only mention it because the noise doesn’t get trapped inside. We were easily able to talk amongst ourselves. Staff was friendly and attentive.

My fiancé and I had the worst customer service experience here last night. We've had times when the staff has been pushy and tried to flip tables quickly, haven't provided accurate wait times or updates, but this was by far the worst for here and any place I have ever been.

Knowing how busy they get, we called ahead to see how long the wait for two would be and put our name down and gave them our number so we could be texted. We made our way to the restaurant and checked in with the hostess, short and blonde, to let her know we were here 5 minutes before we expected to be seated. She found us on the list and confirmed that there was one other two person group ahead of us. Great, we should be seated shortly, right?

An additional 20 minutes later (now we've been waiting for 50 minutes), I checked in again with a different hostess (brunette and taller) and she tells me that there are two couples ahead of us. How could that be possible? When we came in we were told only one couple was ahead of us. This hostess went to see what was going on and then came back and told us she would clean off a table for us. Okay, clearly they messed up but she's trying to correct the problem. Having cleared a table she came back, but before she could grab menus and direct us to our table, the original hostess, the blonde and short one, took another group to the table that had been cleared for us. At this point we have seen multiple other couples seated before us. The hostess who had tried to correct the problem and clear a table for us, apologized and didn't understand why her colleague had just done that. When she spoke to her colleague about the problem, the original hostess (the one we had checked in with and the one who seated another group ahead of us at a table that had been cleared for us once the problem was acknowledged) said flippantly, "Just put them there," indicating a table directly in front of the house musician and where it was loud and you couldn't have a conversation without shouting.

The hostess who was trying to correct her colleague's mistake apologized again and offered us the table in front of the house musician. At this point, having seen what her colleague had done, I was very frustrated. I told her no, we had been waiting for over an hour and I would like to be able to sit somewhere I can enjoy my meal and talk to my fiancé.

At this point, the original hostess came over and tried to make it sound like this was our fault. She asked if we received a text and I told her no, and she said sometimes texts don't go through but if the group isn't there within 10 minutes she gives the table away. I asked her, I literally talked to you right before our table should have been ready. I'm standing two feet from you, don't you have the ability to tell me our table is ready? She looked at me and said no, she couldn't do that. We left, because we weren't going to give this establishment our money if they can't acknowledge a mistake.

I waited until today to write this review and I'm still really angry. We never received a text. And if they had sent us one but we didn't respond, how were we still on the list 20 minutes later? Clearly they screwed up and this person just couldn't own her mistake. Her colleague realized something had gone wrong and tried to fix it for her, but even that was derailed by this person's incompetency.

My fiancé and I are people of color and while I would like to believe that this horrible experience was just an inability to provide a basic level of customer service, it's hard to ignore that the vast majority of the clientele is white and she simply didn't think we...

Terrible service.

First, we sat down at our table and after 15 minutes had to ask to be served. We called a woman over and asked if she could get us our server and she said “oh I can help you.” We placed our beer order and tried to order a pretzel but they were out, so we ordered nachos. We wanted to order the short rib poutine, but they had run out of that as well. We had to ask for plates and utensils.

Second, it took at least 20 minutes to receive our first round of beer.

Third, we received our nachos but upon delivery we were informed they ran out of guacamole but were asked if we wanted avocado instead. (Isn’t guacamole made with avocados?)

Fourth, after finishing our nachos the bus boy took the plate away but left food debris all over the table. We then had to ask for more utensils and to have the table cleaned.

Fifth, 30 minutes after placing our order for the main meal, the server came back and informed us they had run out of the french dip sandwich, and to pick something else. This was now the 4th item they had run out of. I was surprised at the lack of planning on a expectedly busy holiday weekend.

Sixth, when our meals finally came, two came at once and the fries were cold and the next two came out 5 minutes after that. Again, we had to ask for ketchup, salt, pepper and mustard.

Through the entire process, our waitress was completely inattentive and only apologized at the very end while handing us the check, which in my opinion should have been discounted in some way to make up for this poor experience.

Fifty fifty has great beer and the potential to be an amazing establishment in Truckee but unfortunately I will not be returning again.

Date: Sunday,...
