We had a great experience at La Doña Cocina Mexicana for dinner. We went for an impromptu dinner after I had heard about this restaurant on our local facebook group. The owner Daniel is from Guerrero in South Mexico. The food is flavorful and made with a lot of care.
We had our 10 month old babies with us and they seated us right away and took our order for our apps and babies’ food right away. They were very accommodating with our request. The owner’s mother made fresh corn tortillas with queso fresco. The tortillas were pink in color (beet mixed with masa during making the dough).
For app we had guacamole, it was fresh and bursting with flavor.
The menu was new and different to me. Our server Oscar and the owner Daniel helped us decide what to get.
We got picaditas with chicken and one of each sauce - green tomatillo, red tomato and guajillo pepper! The shredded chicken was tender and well cooked (My babies approved). My favorite sauce was the guajillo pepper. Just the right amount of heat!
Quesadillas fritas with mexican potatoes was the star for me! Think a fried corn tortilla filled with oaxaca cheese (stringy and moist), onions, potatoes and served with consommé which the owner recommended we pour over the quesadillas before eating. It was crunchy on the outside and soft potatoes on the inside. A flavor and texture bomb.
Our server Oscar checked on us numerous times and made sure we were comfortable.
I am glad to have experienced their culture and family recipes! And will...

UPDATE! 12/2024 STILL AMAZING!!! Best Mexican food in the region.
I really don't want to tell y'all how amazing the food really is because we won't be able to get a seat there anymore.
However, they deserve a really really really good review because the food is really really really that phenomenal!
Also, we totally embarrassed ourselves with how fast we inhaled the dessert. We ate it so quickly, I don't think we came up for air. It was embarrassing and absolutely worth it!
Authentic deep deep southern Mexican cuisine. Family owned and operated. Everything is homemade and from scratch. Mom and Pop work the kitchen. Son runs the front of the house.
Personable and so excited to share native authentic food from Mexico with no dumbing down for American palate's. True Mexican food that is worth the trip.
These are true 5 star reciews.

I had the enchiladas verdes and my friend chose the enchiladas suizas and both dishes were divine! I am a big fan of salsa verde and theirs was the best! They said that they make all of the salsas fresh, from scratch, in house! You can tell 😋 I had the passion fruit agua Frescas and it was fruity, tangy and just a little bit sweet. I told them that I appreciate the sweetness level and they said that they cook down the fruit to make all of the flavors in house and add a light amount of sugar. It was so refreshing!!
They make a strawberry tres leches cake and wow! It was layered with strawberry jam in the middle with house made whip and fresh fruit pieces on top. That was the best birthday dessert I’ve had in years!!
I will certainly be back to try out more of the menu especially considering their prices are so...
