Was excited to eat here so its sad that I have to give this review. My boyfriend and I both ordered sandwiches. The server told us that the owner of 24 yrs is now the chef so i was anticipating a good experience. My bf had a blt, which although small imo, he enjoyed it. He did order onion rings with it and it came with 2 very small rings and 2 medium rings. Again he enjoyed those. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and fries. I asked for no tomato as im very allergic to them. The first sandwich came out with tomato. When i showed the server she quickly apologized and returned it. 2 people shouldve checked its accuracy before being served but mistakes happen right????..... Well the same sandwich was returned with the tomato juice and seeds still all over it. So hands simply went in my sandwich to remove them and sent back out as though I couldnt have done it myself. I called the server back over who again returned my sandwich. She came back over brought bill and said we removed that from Bill for you. We sat there another 15 minutes waiting for my fixed sandwich but it never came..when we finally asked the server was surprised and said I guess I didnt think you wanted another. Would the manager/owner not have asked the server to go ask what they wanted instead if not another sandwich? Ive managed restaurants for over 8 yrs and when a second mistake happens the first question should be what would you like instead...or how can we make this right...that young server should not have had to have handled something like that the 2nd time around..truly disappointing. Id suggest the owner take a look at perhaps retraining his servers on checking for accuracy and maybe a manager course himself so that he understands the importance of personally acknowledging his guests concerns..this place is too small to lose customers over something that couldve easily had been fixed. Oh another note...while waiting 2 other customers returned food..one for an under cooked burger..not sure...
Read moreAlways looking to try something new (or at least new to me), I decided to check out Alice’s Restaurant today. I tend to prefer supporting local non-corporate businesses, so this funky little “Mom ’n’ Pop’s” diner was just what I needed.
The shop is a veritable museum of old Coca Cola memorabilia, the walls covered in old Coke marketing goodies — which is funny when you see the sign on the front window announcing “We Proudly Serve… Pepsi”. I read the backstory once on their website, but it seems that website is now defunct. To the best of my recollection, they used to serve Coke (or planned to), but the local Coke distributor wouldn’t give them the time of day, whereas the Pepsi distributor was more than happy to give them the respect they deserve… and thus a Coke memorabilia shop serving Pepsi. Right on!
The clientele I observed were mostly retirees and appeared to be a “first name basis” of local loyals. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich served with fries and added a cup of today’s soup, Bean & Bacon. The soup was very clearly homemade with nice chewy bites of bacon. The sandwich was fair enough fare; the fries were from frozen but good. I’ll try their breakfast next time.
As for the service, the young woman who served me was really nice, smiling, attentive, accommodating and made my first visit to this restaurant a welcoming experience. Five stars; wish more wait staff...
Read moreI went in to get a late breakfast on December 30, 2017. Everything started off ok until a fan or AC or something kicked on and it got cold. I had placed my order but it hadn’t come out yet. I had trouble getting the server’s attention even though she had time to be a Chatty Cathy with the booth I was facing. She delivered my food order before the drink at which point I was able to tell her it was cold. She left and returned to tell be what the temperature was. I don’t know where that number came from but it was cold where I was. It was apparent she wasn’t going to do anything about it so I asked for my order to go. She left I assumed to get a go box. I stood up to get ready to leave and noticed she was standing by the cash register. So I went over and gave her my debit card. She seamed surprised and asked me what I wanted. I said I just wanted to get out of there. She was just standing there and I was cold. Another lady came over and they purposely made it as hard for me to leave as possible. And accused me of being rude. I never said or did anything other than try and leave. When I was finally walking out I heard one say behind me not to come back.
I’m far from a regular but have been going there for over 20 years. As a former bartender and server you can bet I will...
