Huge Menu, Friendly Staff, Very Popular It's like a place from the north woods of Wisconsin, Minnesota or Michigan. The cabin and bear motif in this diner is a nice change from southwestern decor. This place is big and clearly popular as it was a bit after dinner hour and almost every table was full. We were warmly greeted and led through the dining area to a table with comfortable chairs. Comfy looking booths line the perimeter. The menus are like small newspapers and include tid-bits about employees, a story of how two guys started the business and a menu that is bigger than any you've seen. I like a Friday fish fry, which just happened to be an All-You-Can-Eat dinner special every Friday for $14.99. I ordered it with sweet potato fries and it comes with hush puppies, cole slaw and tarter sauce. My wife ordered the Turkey Club with onion rings for $12.99. My fish plate was brought to the table with regular fries and the server promptly brought the sweet potato fries when she noticed the error. I suspect the fish is cod, a whitefish perfectly cooked, flaky and tasty, but the breading surrounding the fish was too thick for me. I ended up taking off the breading and thoroughly enjoyed the fish. 2nds and 3rds of more fish were brought out quickly. The cole slaw was just ok and the sweet potato fries were excellent. My wife really enjoyed her sandwich composed of thick cut moist turkey, thick bacon, lettuce, smoked ham and condiments. The kitchen had no problem omitting the center slice of bread per her request. These onion rings are legit! If we hadn't gorged on my huge serving of fries, we would have ordered more of these rings. We noticed the desert case when we entered, filled with attention getting cakes and pies, but had to pass this time. Prices are average, portions are large, it's a comfortable atmosphere and there's something for everyone...
Read moreHello, I am writing because of the atrocity of service I witnessed at your location on Broadway in Tucson, Az on Christmas Day around 1 in the afternoon... An older lady came in around the same time that my family and I were sitting enjoying our day, she was seating a a two person table near us, I distinctly remember her because she was wearing a Santa dress.. Soon after her food was delivered she got up and went to the rest room, when she came out the waiters had cleared her table and seated another couple. We could tell she seemed to be very embarrassed and taken back by this, we over heard the manager offering her 50% off her meal. Intrigued by this, I kept observing and when she approached the front to pay there was a group of worked sitting there laughing and making fun about "table 35", this woman was almost in tears and the whole staff was mocking her and thought the situation was funny. It sounded like she tried to stand up for herself while they were making fun of the situation. This poor older lady was being made fun of ON CHRISTMAS, by the staff, and it was not the whole staffs business so I would assume the manager went and joked about it with employees. This is a disgrace. I will never visit a Black Bear Diner again after what I witnessed. And they still made her pay for the meal they rudely TOOK from her. Disgusting and disgraceful and a poor business practice.
This borderlines discrimination on single older women and I hope she decides to take action against your team for how she was treated, and she was the only person who seemed to be there alone on Chtristmas. Absolute disgrace.
I hope you guys are proud of the customer service your team provided on what should be a day filled with joy, love and compassion must have completely crushed...
Read moreI have been a very satisfied diner at the Black Bear Diner for months. It is easy to find and parking is free and spacious. Stepping into the restaurant feels like walking into a log cabin in the Pacific Northwest. More upscale than Cracker Barrel and diverse menu. My favorite server is Jay and he is intuitive with diners. Even if he doesn't know you, he can anticipate your needs and is discreetly watching all the tables to ensure everyone has enough napkins, drinks filled and gauge the tempo of dining. We now ask for him as our server all the time as we often visit on Friday for the clam chowder. The clam chowder is only available on Friday. I wish they served Huevos Rancheros on the menu as in Tucson that is sort of a local specialty. During holidays this is the only restaurant you can guaranty will have a full course dinner - whether it is Thanksgiving, Christmas or St. Patrick's Day. Prices are incredibly reasonable even for the holiday meals. Our last visit we bought souvenir coffee mugs but they have other merchandise as well. The pies are delicious and you can take one to go on your way out. Servers can receive gratuity in cash and I would recommend so there is no delay in receiving their tip. Most restaurants now add the tip to the server's next paycheck so they don't benefit from the gratuity for a long time. I would strongly recommend this restaurant. Friday nights are all you can eat fish after 4 pm. ...
