This review is based on our first visit (husband & I), but judging from the number of regulars I observed I would think good food and service is the norm here. This cozy restaurant is a little hard to find the first time because it’s not too visible from the street, but there is ample close parking which is a plus. While the place is on the small side, the quality of food is large, and everything appeared neat & clean. I mention the size because one might need reservations at peak times due to limited amount of seating. Our server Ari was most pleasant in taking & delivering our order. She wore a mask when directly speaking with customers which I appreciate. In general there is a friendly vibe; another customer engaged us in light conversation, as well as several customers conversing with staff which made me feel like I was in a neighborhood pub where we knew one another more or less. I chose the Lamb Schwarma plate with rice and hummus, while my husband had Marinated Beef Kabob with rice and salad. We both love Mediterranean food and this place served up some of best we’ve had at a reasonable price. My lamb was well cooked, tender, and nicely seasoned & sauced. The rice was so fragrant that I was appreciating it before the first bite; it was perfectly cooked & seasoned as well. The hummus was lovely with a nice sour tang & it hosted abundant herbs & spices within it. Portions were generous! I ate only about half and brought the rest home for another meal. Fresh pita bread was served rolled in paper which kept it warm, and I used it to scoop up that tasty hummus. My husband’s beef kabobs were nicely cooked, tender & tasty. He ordered the BBQ sauce on the side which was a good call because he found it too spicy. However, he was fine with the kabobs as they were. He said the oil & vinegar dressing was just the right amount for the salad, and like me he loved the rice. Also like me he brought home some of his beef and rice. Some restaurants mainly use salt and overuse it as well, but Shish Kebab House flavors their dishes more with seasonings like spices & herbs. I loved the flavors without a mouthful of salt. Our plates were not terribly greasy either, another thing I find detestable. In short you can eat fairly healthy here if you want to, though of course they do have higher calorie offerings. A visit to the restroom showed it was neat, clean, and had adequate supplies of paper goods and soap. A schedule posted on the door had the day’s date on it along with instructions that cleaning should occur every 3 hours. The pride in operations and ownership really came through, especially in this intermediate COVID-19 period when some of us are just starting to dine inside again. It gave me confidence that the owners and staff were doing what they could to maintain cleanliness. This restaurant is definitely a place to revisit in the future & I would recommend...
Read moreI've eaten here once before and loved it. So we went back tonight for another meal. It wasn't that busy which was fine by us. My friend & I ordered fried cauliflower & sweet potato fries. Well my cauliflower came out and hers didn't. So she finally said something to the wait staff. It came out. . . . . COLD! That was strike one in our books. Her gyro was ok. Last time it was great! I ordered the shawarma such a let down. Last time it was phenomenal. The one waitress was going to bring me my pitas. God that was 10 + minutes later. Strike two. Then came the fact we had 4 different wait staff while I get for some that would be great. Not so much so this time. The fact that I watched them all walk by us when we were clearly done so many times I was just fed up. I finally had to ask for a carry out container and two checks. They took forever getting a container & check. We got the check and it was put together no big deal but they charged her for her cold fries. Give me a break. They took it off after we said something. But it seemed like how dare we not want to pay for cold food. I'm so disappointed and sorry I wasted my money here this time. I wish we had the same experience as...
Read moreHeard a lot about this place. Compared to other Mediterranean options, this one is a bit expensive but we tried it whatsoever. The food was ranging between okayish to good. Rice was much more than the entree for the vegetarian alternative of dishes. We were six of us and service was sub-par. We could make out that the service person was new and she couldn't handle the tasks of taking down orders for so many of us, bringing them at the right time without dropping them. She forgot one starter, some extra sauce we ordered, and one main dish and dropped a starter as she was carrying too many things. She took way too long to bring the ordered dishes and did not ask us for dessert. Finally, the bill was brought to us quite late and we we had to wait for a long time until we went to the reception and paid the bill. I guess the waiter was a novice and we understand, but the restaurant should know better when 6+ people are in a sigle table than to send a trainee waiter. I wouldnt recommend this place to others as it is expensive and not worth...
