Update January 2024: Still as good as a chorizo breakfast can be! Continues to be 5 stars. I commute across town just for this chorizo breakfast. Staff is super friendly, place is always extremely clean – tortillas are so wonderfully fresh and thin, and when you ask for the ‘hot sauce’- it comes together as a little piece of heaven. While I do wish they offered chips and salsa at breakfast, I cannot ‘ding’ them for not – as everything else to include the shredded beef tacos are next level delicious. 22APR2022: Second visit here in past 60 days, I mention this because so many places are inconsistent - not Plazita Mexico Cafe! Speaking specifically to the Chorizo breakfast plate with beans, rice, and an extra side of SPECTACTULARLY thin and wonderful tortillas. Nice to find a gem on the Eastside of Tucson that creates an authentic Mexican breakfast. Hats off to the chef and staff here - will be back and highly recommend if you're seeking something away from South Tucson / downtown. Tip: The housemade hot sauce may not look like much - but that flavor is spectacular. You have to request it - doesn't arrive automatically.

Plazita Mexico Cafe blew me away. Hands down one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the molcajete and it was *to die for*. Rich, sizzling, packed with flavor, and served in that piping hot stone bowl that keeps the goodness going the whole meal. If you’ve never had one before, this is the place to try it. If you have, this one sets the bar. It’s honestly big enough to share with two to four people depending on how hungry you are. That said, I didn’t share. My wife had a quesadilla that was also incredible, which was a blessing in disguise. Otherwise I might have had to split mine 😜 haha wink wink. I absolutely smashed the whole thing and enjoyed every bite. Worth every penny. The food, the flavor, the portion size, the service, it all hits. If you’re anywhere near Tucson, Plazita Mexico Cafe is 100 percent worth the stop. I’d come back just for that molcajete.

Arrived for brunch. I try to sneak in here as able. Advised to sit wherever l wanted. While I've had a traditional breakfast here before, today l wanted a tamale. I ordered water with lemon to drink. I ordered a small bowl of the tortilla soup. It was beyond superb. Extreamely tasty. I'd highly recommend the tortilla soup. For the main course, I had the #16 combo plate for my meal. It consisted of a shredded beef tamale, a shredded beef taco and a shredded beef enchilada along with rice and beans. Every aspect of my food was spot on. Delivered hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The rice has a different flavor accompanying to it. Pleasant but untraditionally odd. I'd highly recommend having any meal here. My meal was fantastic?

My family has been a customer of this restaurant since the inception. We got to know the owner Elizabeth because she was always so friendly. We frequently visit there when out of state family & friends visit. Even during the Covid pandemic we would always place to go orders & still add our usual tip just to let them know how much we appreciate & support their family business. I write this today because I experienced something today that was a rude awakening by the owner’s husband. On Saturday morning we love having menudo so I usually place a to go order for a 1/2 gallon of both red & white menudo, at least once or at times twice a month. The cost has always been anywhere between $22 & $24 for both combined. If I order only one 1/2 gallon then the cost is usually around $11 or $12. Today I called & placed an ordered for 1/2 gallon of red menudo with extra meat. The cost today was $24. I inquired if their prices had gone up as today’s total was double what I usually pay for both. The son said it increased from $11 per gallon to $18.00. I thought that increase was a little extreme but with everything else going up I told him that I get it. However when I got home and opened the lid and removed the aluminum foil, much to my surprise the pot was only 1/3 filled and 80% was liquid & meat. There hardly no hominy at all. I thought the extra amount I had paid for the extra meat that it replaced the hominy. I felt I had a duty to call the restaurant & let them know how disappointed I was in today’s order. However when I called and asked to speak with Elizabeth’s son (since he’s the one who took my order) I was told he was waiting on a table but the person said she was his assistant & could take the message. When I shared my concern with her she responded by saying “Let me have you talk to my dad because he’s the one who served it.” This man immediately came to the phone, not hello, or how can I assist you, but said “If you’re not happy with it bring it back and we’ll give you your money back.” The words not only took me by surprise but his tone was very gruff, I was so taken back by his introduction that all I could say was , “Wow, I sure wasn’t expecting that response & he again reiterated that if I wasn’t happy with it to bring it back for a refund. I am so dissatisfied & disappointed with this that we need to decide if this is a business we want to support. This left a very bad taste...

My friend and I had a delicious lunch this afternoon. I had chicken enchiladas infused with a wonderful white cream sauce. My friend had tacos with shredded beef and loved them. Parking was plenty. As soon as we walked in the front entrance, we were greeted by a very kind and friendly staff with a very down to earth clean atmosphere. Our waitress was so professional and really listened to our questions about the menu. She also did mention the daily special too. The food came quick with very little wait at all. All the food was fresh and hot (temperature wise). Did I mention how delicious the chips and salsa were!!!. I wish I could give a million stars to this fine establishment because they are so deserving of it. I can't wait to come back for breakfast and dinner because of the vast selection on the menu. I also believe in supporting local 100%. It was so refreshing to realize that there are still businesses out there who truly care about the quality of food they serve without doubling the price since COVID which I call greed!. I realize everything has gone up but, I hate when people take full advantage of doubling prices with smaller portions which is a total rip off!. Plazita Mexico Cafe does not do this and has now become a favorite regular restaurant I look forward to many wonderful future dining experiences in the future. So what are you waiting for?. Go and indulge with great food, staff and...

Update: This place can get REALLY bad. Last time we dropped by, we seated ourselves and proceeded to wait 15 minutes for any interaction at all. Then when they came to take our order we had to decline, we didn't even have a MENU. They got us some menus but by the time they returned to take our order we noticed just how slow everything was moving. More than half of my fellow guests only had chips and salsa. The kitchen just couldn't keep up. So we decided to leave some cash to cover the coffee and leave.

To the owner: 1. If you don't give customers the menu they cannot order. 2. Your servers should know to give people menus. 3. You need to cut down seating when you're behind, otherwise you'll NEVER get ahead and you anger customers.

Impressive food for such a quaint establishment! Service was solid, if a bit thinly spread. The atmosphere is quiet and homey.

I had the Chilaquiles which were outstanding and came in a portion size I was thoroughly unprepared for. Making my extra side, a Green Chile and Corn Tamale seem entirely unnecessary.

My wife had the veggie fajitas and they came out sizzling and also in mind boggling generous portions.

All in all we both left full, happy, and unfortunately for our productivity, ready to go...
