Because the place had a recent outside stucco makeover, and I have not been there for 9 years because of a bad experience then, I thought La Vera deserved a 2nd chance.
I entered and after confirming that I could specify some adjustments to the assembly of a few of its normal ingredients, I ordered a cheese hoagie as follows:
Don't use excess of any ingredient. I like a balanced sandwich.
Do not use too much lettuce and not too much cheese. (In my experience there are a number of places which weigh out the cheese and insist on using this on your sandwich, causing an excess cheese and unbalanced taste).
3 Please don't use any green part of the tomato, if needed I'll pay extra for it.
Please use Salt, Pepper and Oregano.
Please use Mayonnaise.
Please make it as a grinder. (That means stick it into the oven to melt the cheese).
I sat down perusing their menu while waiting for my cheese hoagie. I noticed the price which was $ 4.75.
When I got my sandwich 15 minutes later, I noticed that it was impossible to pick up and eat unless I pushed the ingredients into the roll with a knife, which I did not have. I went to the counter, asked for and received a knife and fork, then pushed my sandwich into a usable form and started eating it.
It was extremely dry.
An examination revealed the total absence of Mayo, which I then obtained from the people behind the counter.
After disassembling my sandwich, I spread the Mayo onto the 4 roll sides of my hoagie. This made a little bit of a mess which I endured.
Doing so, I noticed that while my hoagie roll had a slight toasted look, my cheese was not at all melted as a cheese grinder usually is.
At this moment the young lady who took my order at the counter happened to be cleaning the table next to me. I told her that grinders usually have their cheese melted. I told her this so that in the future, she and/or the sandwich makers would know this. I also said I'd eat my sandwich the way it is(I had already waited 15 minutes for the sandwich).
I finally started eating and immediately noticed the absence of any salt and pepper. I went back to the counter, picked up a salt shaker and a pepper shaker and added these missing ingredients.
While eating my sandwich, I perused my bill and found that they charged me $ 5.25 instead of the $4.75 price in their menu.
When I was done eating, I asked the young lady at the counter why my sandwich was priced higher than the menu.
She reminded me that I said "if needed I'll pay extra for it". I responded with: "oh yes you are right", and then left.
Now I don't want intimate that the food was substandard, but the finished assembly certainly was!!!
Any savvy manager would have noted the the various mishaps that occurred with my order and offered either:
An apology A coupon for future orders Removal of the $ 050 extra charge All of the above
The management, if it is not aware of La Vera's substandard procedures, certainly will see this place going down the drain.
If on the other hand the management is made aware of these shortcomings and works to correct them, they will have a chance at survival.
To prosper in any business requires research and actions to implement change. An exterior makeover can buy a little more time, but is not enough.
Research:
Your competition Your products as they compare to your competition Your business procedures Your cost Your public perception Ways to improve and get a leg up on competition
Despite my doubts, I really hope the management will see this and...
Read moreNot sure what happened to this place. Growing up in levittown Ariana’s was always my #1 go to place. Every friday we’d order a few pies for family dinner, and a night or two in the month we would go eat there. ALL of that has changed within the past 2-3 months. Last month I was in there, there were new girls working the front counter. Which new people are definitely not a problem but they seemed all over the place. We come in, and it has to be around 7 on a weekday night (im not sure exactly). 2 people at the counter (customers) and a few kids in one of the booths. (You’ll understand why I noted that soon). But we walk in and tell one of the girls that we want to eat in. Not even looking up from whatever it was she was doing tells us to just “grab a seat”. So, Instinctively we did and waited for about 10 minutes until the girl came over. Then she wasn’t as “Attitudy” as she was when we had walked in, so it started to get a little better as she asked what we wanted to drink and if we knew what we wanted to eat. And this is where it gets dicey. It was 4 of us there, 2 orders of hot wings, 1 order of some potatoe appetizer that had bacon, and chicken fingers with fries. My food was the first to come out in decent time. I had one of the orders of wings. The next order of wings came out about 5-10 minutes after that. Then finally the appetizer came out another 5-10 minutes after that. So now were waiting, and i didnt mention that she forgot the refills every time she came back to the table but thats still not what concerned me. So around 35-40 minutes AFTER I got my food, I went up to ask how much longer the chicken fingers needed because i needed to be somewhere. She proceeds to tell me that and ill quote this for you. “They are about to be pulled out of the fryer any second”. So I say thanks, and take my seat. As im talking to my brother I see out of the corner of my eye the girl talking to the cook, who proceeds to FINALLY drop the chicken fingers. At this point, i get up and tell the girl that if i didnt leave in that instant that i was going to be late getting to work (which was true) so she says next time you come in just remind us and you can get a new platter. It was whatever at this point i just didnt understand how all the food could come out at seperate times like that. But i go in a few days later and tell them my name that they had me leave. Andddddd nobody knew what i was talking about. So i will not be returing until there are more competent workers at the front. And tell them if they mess up, dont lie to the customer. Thats how you...
