El Rancho Grande has been consistently good for more years than I can recall. I personally associate them as tex-mex, which isn't typically my preference, but they do it well. The salsa has great flavor, and the chips pair very well. My guilty pleasure is their nighthawk reverse. The soft cheese tacos in queso just does it for me, and from day one, I've never ordered anything else. The cheese enchiladas topped with chili con carne is something I wish other restaurants would do. Needless to say, I look forward to the taste of Tulsa staple of tex-mex with no regrets. Dine in or togo this meal has me hooked. My wife always gets the El Rancho Grande platter, the #1. It isn't cheap, but there's plenty of great food, and the value is obvious when you take a majority of it to go. They start with a shredded chicken taco and a guacamole salad covered in a catalina dressing. The chicken taco is always juicy and delicious. The Catalina dressing really is the star of the guacamole salad, it is very enjoyable. Once you have your taco and guacamole salad served in front of you and you're enjoying yourself, a much bigger plate arrives with a tamale, cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. You quickly realize what you ordered is more than your stomach can withstand. Despite the abundance of food, your wallet may shed a tear, but the leftovers you have leave you with a tear of joy later. El Rancho Grande has graced Tulsa for more than years than I can remember for. The food is good, and the service matches the quality of the food. If anything, I'd give them a shot to wow you even if you prefer more traditional Mexican food, you may be pleasantly surprised. Also, a bonus, they mail you a card for a buy one get one for your birthday!

A Good Solid “Average” Mexican Restaurant There is no denying that is a Tulsa and Route 66 Icon. I have been eating here since the early 80’s. The food and service has remained pretty constant over the years. Complementary chips and salsa come with the meal. They do not have a very hot salsa, but what they serve is good and had a little bite to it from the peppers. It was carne asada and the spinach enchiladas for us today. The skirt steak or flank steak used was juicy, tender and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The steak had been marinated and I really did not care for the flavors. I prefer the taste of good beef with a little salt and pepper and a flavorful char on the outside. It is just too bad the great beef flavor was covered up by odd taste of the seasoning. The meal came with charro beans and roasted corn. Both were good. The roasted corn was mixed with mild peppers and onions. It was a nice surprise and great change from rice. And, to round the meal out I ordered a chili toreado. The spinach enchiladas were packed with spinach and smothered with queso! They came with refried beans and rice. It was a plate full. It was really a lot of queso, but it was good for scooping up with the chips. It is a nice clean neatly decorated restaurant. The service was very good. If you are looking for other Mexican restaurants in the area, check out my reviews in my collection "Jalapeno Highway" on Yelp. I've probably been there.

We are driving Route 66 from Chicago to L.A. We heard about this place in several Rt. 66 guidebooks and thought we would give it a try and see if it measured up to Mexican restaurants in the Chicago area. The food was excellent. From the moment we entered through the front door, the staff was quick to seat us and take our orders. The men's bathroom even has a speaker in the top corner and great wall decor - attention was definitely paid to details here at this restaurant! So why not 5 stars? We asked for bottles of salsa and our waitress had no idea what we were talking about. Perhaps this is a midwestern thing (bringing salsa bottles to the table)? When we shared with several waitstaff we were driving Route 66 and we had read about this restaurant and we wanted to stop here, staff didn't seem as excited (or knowledgeable of Rt. 66) as we thought they would. A downside? I ordered a $9 "Perfect margarita" and it was served to me in a small tumbler glass! It is by far the SMALLEST margarita I have ever had. This was disappointing. Either way, the cuisine is excellent and for those Route 66 travelers, this might be a welcome place to get away from burgers and hotdogs.

Worst food ever. I called in 30 min before they closed, I asked if they were still taking orders and the girl was very sweet and said yes. I made my way there I’m probably 15 min away at most) and paid for the food ($60 worth) I bought 4 wet burritos. when I got the food home me and my mom tried it and it was nasty. The meat had no flavor, and I’m not sure if the beans were watery, the tomatoes they put in the burrito were watery or both, it was a soggy burrito and we didn’t even put the cheese on it. I called the store knowing they were closed, but I just wanted to leave a vm just do they knew the night of the order that I wasn’t satisfied. No one ever called back, so I called back. The girl said manager had already left for the day and to leave my number bc the manager is normally good about calling back. So I called the next morning when they opened. The manager was very rude. I told him we weren’t happy and he kept trying to argue with me. I told him I had all the food and 2 were never touched, but $60 is a lot of money to pay for food that no one liked or ate. I had to keep telling him we weren’t happy and we didn’t even eat it. I finally said it was nasty, and boy did that piss him off. He told me I was rude and he’d worked there over 10 years and never served nasty food. I told him bottom line we weren’t pleased and wanted a refund, I kept food for 2 days in case they needed to see that we didn’t eat it. He took my the last for of my card and told me it would take a couple days. I look at my account and I was only refunded $30 so I still ended up spending $30 on food that was disgusting. I’ve never had a burrito so….. loose and tasteless, microwave burritos are better than the burritos I was served. I’m not even giving that slop to my dogs. DO NOT EAT HERE.HORRIBLE FOOD, HIGH PRICES, AND...

My husband is a Rt 66 fanatic, so he’s been itching to eat here for years. I, however, am not a Mexican food lover unless it is actually in Mexico. People have been dragging me to “the best Mexican restaurant you’ll ever eat at” for years (eyes rolling). I agreed to go to help quench his long time desire to eat here. It seems a somewhat small place, but we were seated immediately. Our server, Frederico, was at our table in under 2 minutes and smiled when I asked for the “sissy sauce”, which we’d learned from other reviews is what you ask for when you don’t handle heat very well. My husband ordered the Night Hawk, which apparently is named one of the top 10 best dishes to order. The waiter said, “If you LOVE cheese (he stressed love) then you’ll love it” my husband likes cheese but doesn’t love cheese, so he wasn’t a fan in the end. However, the first few bites he was in love, but the cheese finally overwhelmed him. I ordered a Wet Burrito. I’m not a lover of Mexican food, again, unless in Mexico, or cheese, so I requested Colorado sauce instead of the con queso it’s normally served with. It was without a doubt the best burrito I’ve ever had. I even offered to give my husband half because I’d “never finish it”, but the magical So Delicious Fairy visited, and I ate the entire burrito! Neither of us had to ask for drink or chip refills. Federico just kept them coming, a very observant server. Great food, great service, great historical atmosphere! We’ll go back soon,...
