A buddy and I went while in Tulsa for the Daryl Starbird Car Show. Have been a few times over the years would say I didn't have any negative opinions from before but didn't remember anything special either. So we go. It was pretty dead which was good for us but understandably not for a restaurant. Except this is a time to shine. Like literally and/publicly. The man cooking and woman maybe management or overseer.... Supervisor of the wait staff were maybe a couple their interactions didn't say much. There was a younger (early 20s Maybe) female who took our order but seemed reluctant and seemed to be bothered by having to hear words spoken much less ....*look~. I don't know if they all had been arguing. If the girl was new and typical or maybe a cultural thing. But I spoke my #3 order 3 maybe 4 times my buddies chicken chunks looked like McDonald's nuggets. My burger was good but wrong. When I attempted to tell the young girl she simply walked away and got the woman. The woman didn't argue or hesitate and told the cook I suppose. That and this next part was the only thing that really went right. What took 15 min before took about 3-4 min. And I had a correct and fresh burger allowing me to kind of catch up with my fries and my buddy who was going to be finished eating soon. I understand Walmart took place to get my order corrected. I sympathize for the next order that might have been slowed a few minutes (maybe not) but if it wasn't for that I would be leaving 2 stars. Sorry this was long and skipped over * but I do t right poor reviews without some detailed explanation. I would go back but cautiously (timeliness) and with this slightly negative memory. When I do go bk I will update this or write...
Read moreTy’s is a Tulsa iconic burger spot. There are several good burgers in Tulsa but we’ve lost a couple of the long time favorites over the past few years. Ty’s is at the top of my favorites list for old fashioned, grilled burgers. I owned 4 burger restaurants in the 1980s so I know what I’m talking about. These are the reasons for my opinion. The meat is a perfect mix of lean & fat percentage so the patty stays juicy and flavorful. You get a choice of 1/4 pound or a 1/3 pound patty.I ordered the A1 bacon burger today. The burger tasted like a great hamburger steak because of the A1 sauce. Nothing is worse with a bacon burger than bacon that’s not cooked well. Ty’s bacon is cooked perfectly, crispy and they keep it flattened. Many don’t understand how important a well toasted bun is. Not only does it soften and put some moisture in the bun but the slight char gives the burger more flavor as well. Just leaving the bun on the grill that extra 15 seconds makes the difference between an average, no big deal sandwich and a burger that deserves a big time review. Ty’s always has fresh, hand sliced vegetables and still hand cuts their famous curly fries. Tulsa, we need to assure Ty’s remains open and thriving as one of our iconic places to get one of the finest old fashioned hamburgers the city...
Read moreTantalizing tangles of tators and a burger as good as any old-fashioned burger in Tulsa.
The paint on the building can’t disguise the building’s age, inside or out. The building has been around awhile. Possibly much longer than the 40 plus years since Ty’s first slapped a beef patty on the grill in Tulsa. A sign painted on the south side of the building proclaims “over 3 dozen sold.” It doesn’t qualify that achievement in reference to the time it took to do it. Judging from the delicious taste of the burger and fries, I believe that volume in sales is easily exceeded daily!
Inside the seating is comprised of a hodgepodge of comfortable orphaned chairs and tables. Order at the counter, the food is delivered to your table.
In the kitchen, Ty’s unwinds the big potatoes. Then the pale tangles of potato string are rushed to the fryer. In minutes they become golden brown coils, crispy potato Slinkies. You get a big pile and they are good, addictive. The burger matched. For me a third pound patty with cheese, appropriately dressed with L,T,P,O&M hold the mayo.
Ty’s is a must try old-fashioned burger dive....
