I am a regular at Yokozuma l, I always talk highly of this company, I am a huge foodie and I love giving people a reference. Sadly today wasnt that at all. My experience was far from satisfactory, I am reluctantly posting this i genuinely enjoy eatting here. My experience this visit made me feel as if I was treated as my visit was a burden instead of a opportunity. I am a tipper. I love when I have a good server and I tip generously. When I arrived with my family+6 we asked the host to sit outside which we were immediately denied and were told" We dont want to push 2 tables together" so we quickly agreed to sit in a booth by the staircase closer to the back of the restaurant. We are commuting 45 mins for our favorite sushi restaurant keep in mind. We are frequent to this establishment and know what we want before we sit down. We are sitting for about 10 mins and its not a busy night. People are walking by, refills being made but somehow our table is completely missed by everyone. So I get up and ask the waitress/and Hostess around the corner visiting, " so are we gonna have a waitress or.....?" The hostesses then replys " yes she should be on her way" then they separate and I watch the hostess stop and talk to my then "waitress" she look at my table sees my kids and rolls her eyes and turns around...... im not just saying this, my kids were quietly sitting in this booth. So im offended that were were treated with such neglect, the waitress by the name of " Stephanie approaches the table with waters assuming thats all I could afford later she told me thats policy during dinner. Which ok thats fine but it doesn't take 15 mins to come and ask for our preference before bringing drinks we dont want......... so after that I began to tell her our drinks and multiple appetizers, she isnt writing any of it down.... then I begin to tell her our order because like I said before this isnt our first visit we are driving 45 mins knowing where we are going, she replys with " im just getting your appetizers now......" like excuse me???? You dont have to say that you can put it in separate then turn it in but instead she insisted on saying that. I can read a room and people body language and she was just completely off. I am just trying to enjoy a HOT MESS AND A SANGRIA but instead I am faced with disrespect and neglect. Her attitude was so bad I gathered the menus and said we are just gonna leave....." then my boys needed to use the restroom so I told them to go while I pulled the truck around.... as they were walking out they overheard" did they leave yet?" Like WOW I could maybe understand if my kids were being a disturbance but to be quietly sitting there and be completely ignored at a place of service is never okay. I am here ready and willing to pay. Our ticket is always 100+ when we dine and we are expecting to pay that plus more and for us to have to experience that was just so..... untasteful to say the least. Dont have a customer service job and not be able to supply the service. Yokozuna I will be returning but I will not be coming back to the 91st and...
Read moreBLUF: Above average priced for below average sushi. Will not return.
DETAILS: This was our 2nd or 3rd time here, unfortunately. Location and distance is my enemy - I need to be disciplined enough to not let convenience overcome my and my family’s craving for sushi. There are so many other better options. Overall, it’s terrible quality sushi, esp for what you pay. I blame myself for returning here, foolishly expecting it to be better this time around. The fact that it’s conveniently located at a busy shopping area, with Whole Foods next to it - that’s why ended up going back. Never again. Finally writing a review.
Rice, the key ingredient in all sushi, is overcooked, mushy and bland. Enough said there.
We sat at the bar, only to observe the sushi “chef” make a rainbow roll with precut and pre-wrapped fish. I kid you not, this was the first I’ve seen a rainbow roll made this way. And I’ve seen and eaten a LOT of sushi. With it being my favorite food, this was utterly inexcusable… having it done this way to merely safe time or prep. This is an insult to sushi and sushi lovers.
Son ordered the ramen to accompany the meal - it was okay albeit a bit bland. For $18 a bowl, we were surprised to find out it didn’t even come with the staple egg. Chili sauce was extra $, I kid you not.
I don’t mind paying high for good sushi. We do that often. Emphasis on the good (if not great) part. This was not that. Far from it.
Our waiter was the best part of our meal. He was engaging and attentive and not overbearing. However, he doesn’t control how the kitchen and sushi team cuts corners and gives a bad imitation of the iconic Japanese food.
Will not return. No photos necessary to accompany...
Read moreI've been here several times, but it seems to be going downhill. Most recently, we went for my husband's birthday a couple of weeks ago and our server was really condescending and inattentive. I ordered Jorge's Nachos from the appetizer menu and when they arrived, I was astounded that something so expensive could be so small and visually underwhelming. A little bit of raw tuna and salmon and a single thin slice of avocado cut into smaller pieces, tossed in a flavorless soy sauce concoction with a handful of fried wonton chips for $26. They forgot my husband's entree and when we told them, they didn't bring it out until everyone was almost done eating and he had already eaten off of everyone else's plate because he was starving. At the end of the meal, we all ordered dessert and then the smarmy waiter came back to our table and informed us that they only had enough of what we ordered for 2 of the people at the table. He couldn't even be bothered to bring the dessert menu back with him so we could pick something else, and we all just decided to hit up a frozen yogurt place afterward because it wasn't worth the hassle. The Nutty Thai professor roll is still one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had, but this place is too expensive for the service and quality/value of their other dishes to be so poor. I think we'll go somewhere...
