I was debating on making this review because I really love to support local (which is why I wrote a thorough novel explaining), but we expected more from this place to be honest, and were sadly disappointed. Skip to the end for generalized review lol. The service and everyone who worked there is wonderful I'll start by saying that, so five stars to them at least :) We had high expectations, excited to have a nice steakhouse in Turlock, that's for sure! When it comes down to it, the portions are quite small and everything is over priced. My parents ordered the sea bass which was a special and (our fault) we didn't bother to ask for the price. But it ended up being $45 for a very small piece of sea bass with two small sides. Which truthfully was not worth it. We ordered our steaks medium rare and they were more medium well. Which is okay, we had it anyway but it was tough and we could honestly Traeger a better one at home. Another thing to note, is they are called "cuts" but only offer three options for steak: filet mignon (8oz), ribeye (14oz), and New York strip (12oz). They do offer a variety of ways to cook your steak though which is great, we thought that was nice. But they also offer butter for the top of your steak. At $8, for a tab of butter when I buy a whole block of Kerrygold for $4, I just don't think that's entirely reasonable, bone marrow or "truffle" in it regardless. My boyfriend's au gratin had undercooked potatoes which was unfortunate because they did have good flavor. Mashed potatoes on the other hand were quite bland and they set the steak on top of the mashed potatoes which was points down on presentation for me just because I don't want steak juice mashed potatoes and my steak covered in mashed potatoes. Broccolini though was great! We all had drinks which were very good drinks, but 90% ice. At $12 though, can't complain because they were well made otherwise. At the end my dad wanted to order a mixed berry crisp. Glad it was just for him even though we had a taste. Extremely small, basically just a berry compote with some oats sprinkled on top and a small drop of whipped cream. and was in the same vessel as the Mac n cheese which is confusing. I think there was a shortage of dishes because everyone working was always staring at the table waiting to get our plates and glasses and tried to take them about every two minutes which is totally okay (just doing their jobs) it was just a bit much when there was still obvious food on our plates and liquid in our drinks lol. Overall, this place is new and it looked like they were doing their best but tweaks in the kitchen would certainly help. For $350 for four people though, not worth it at all. It's a Texas Roadhouse in Gucci glasses. Might come back for lunch sometime, but as of right now, there's a lot of other local places where you get more bang...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went in last night for a late Mother's Day dinner with my family and left without eating our meal. We came in around 6:50 pm and were seated. The server was very kind and attentive despite the service being pretty slow. We got our drinks and appetizer around 7:20 pm and placed our order for dinner. We ordered a burger, ribeye and a kids meal. From there on we had our bread, appetizer and drinks. After 30 minutes or so we realized no one had come back to give us an update on our meal and/or ask for refills. Even though the restaurant did not appear busy, we assumed they were simply short staffed and remained patient. Around 8:15 pm our toddler became impatient so we waved down our server to ask if it would be much longer before our dinner came out. He stepped away to ask and returned to tell us that it would still be some time, but he would try to get the kids meal out first. He proceeded to tell us there was a delay because of the ribeye that we ordered and the time it was taking to cook it. We decided to ask for our check and cancel our order. We left around 8:30 pm without having dinner and went to In-N-Out. The server apologized many times despite none of this actually being his fault. The fact that he was taking the initiative to do this versus an actual manager addressing the situation was unfortunate. This is me simply sharing my first experience here. Again the server was very kind, the ambiance was decent, the service itself was slow, but the fact that we had to wait so long to eventually decide to leave without a meal was a bit much. If at the time of arrival we had been notified that there would be a wait, we could've made a decision sooner on wanting to stay or go elsewhere. To have customers come in, make them wait and not communicate properly isn't really a good look. I've heard and read mixed reviews about this place and decided to give it a shot for myself. It's unfortunate that the experience we had was so poor. In my opinion this place and its menu are trying to achieve a big city experience in the valley, but falling extremely short on the actual service is unfortunate. Especially for the high price they are charging customers for almost a 2 hour wait. Overall, I'm not sure if I'll be back, but I hope there are changes in the near future for this place,...

If your mouth isnāt watering it will be.
Location: Down town across from Commonwealth Turlock
Ambiance: The ambiance is superb. From the decor, lighting and color scheme the restaurant clearly has an intentional vibe. An elevated experience, very clean. The seating can host anywhere from large parties to an intimate date for two. The bar is also a solid seat as well.
Menu Design: Easy to read and navigate. Menu recently updated. Aesthetically pleasing.
Beverages: Devine. I donāt say this subtly. The drinks exceeded expectations. They have an awesome selection and experienced bartender (Mixologist, Brandon) who guides you through the journey of the drink in itself. I find a fond appreciation in the clarity of their ice. Flawlessly clear. A business that is willing as to be so detail oriented speaks volumes as to precision and quality.
Bites:
I could go on and on, but weāll settle for a review of a few items.
Now I warn you once you have this burger, most anything else will not taste as superior. Try the Jalepeno Popper Burger (recommended by Emily, hostess) the brioche bun is soft and buttery, the kind where it just feels so right in your hands, that little bit of squish as you squeeze down. The burger is delectable. Every ingredient made to not overwhelm the senses, but yet create a symphony in your mouth. A JalapeƱo popper concert in my mouth more specifically. It was paired nicely with rosemary fries. The fries were thin and fresh, not to crispy, not to soft.
The bananas foster bread pudding was recommended for dessert (Lauren, server). It did not disappoint. Warm vanilla ice cream with Ooey gooey goodness of bread pudding. The warm and cold, the way it melts in your mouth with every bite. Itās a big serving size but a great size if your wanting to share something sweet at the end of your meal with your date.
The people: Polite and friendly staff, awesome recommendations. Quick to serve. Overall, a lasting impression made. The people are as top tier as the menu and ambiance itself.
If you are in Turlock. Stop here and experience this Jem, because it truly is one of a kind.
