I had an appointment for a cake tasting for my wedding cake at Old Tyme Pastries and me & my fiancé arrived and they "forgot" to prepare the cake for the cake tasting!! Well how am I suppose to have a cake tasting with no cake?? So anyway I left & right down the street was Sunrise so we decided to go in and set up an appointment & maybe grab a slice of cake to go. This place was so amazing they literally set up a tasting in like 5 minutes!! They gave us 5 different cakes & about 10 different fillings. The hazelnut is DEEEELICIOUS! So we looked at some pictures & tweeked a little bit and came up with our perfect cake. The cost for a 3 tier w rhinestone toppers was about the same price as a 2 tier w no topper from Old Tyme & quite frankly tasted better ( I got a slice to go on the way out, which I paid for ) AND they reserved the date for my cake and said I could make payments in any increments as long as it was paid for 2 weeks before my date. Also, I was told by Old Tyme that they "couldn't make an ombre cake in buttercream, only fondant" but Sunrise said "no problem" so buttercream it is! Amazing customer service (Saragon took our cake order) and an amazing tasting product! Thank you...

I came in and ordered a strawberry napoleon and a slice of german chocolate cake.
The napoleon was a bit light on the strawberries but was delicious nonetheless. They obviously used decent whipped cream and nothing stood out as being nasty.
The german chocolate cake, on the other hand, was the worst I've had in my lifetime. In the semi-transparent coconut topping, there is VERY little coconut. most of it is a sugary goop. But there's a likely reason they kept the actual coconut flavor so minimal: they couldn't drown out the minimal amount of chocolate flavor. It tasted like one of those cake mixes that uses preservatives. I'd bet ten dollars that they bought that german chocolate cake from elsewhere and marked up the price significantly. I could even taste the baking powder/soda residue, which competes with intensity with actual chocolate flavor. That cake was sugar, flour, and baking soda. Oh and some coconut and chocolate. And I wouldn't doubt that the frosting utilized high fructose corn syrup and processed vegetable fats. Just cheap...
Read moreOrdered a cake for a wedding, horrible customer service!! The girl at the counter was beyond rude and supposedly the "employee of the year" (according to the photo on their wall) more like "WORST employee of the year." I had previously called to let them know I needed to order a cake and when I showed up that girl was saying I can't do that and to show up in 4 hours (I drove far just for this bakery). I was beyond disappointed with their customer service. I showed back up hours later only for them to write on a paper my order (they could've done that from the start) the girl had so much attitude and sass and even rolled her eyes at me. She was even on her phone while ringing me up. If only the customer service was as good as the cake I ordered. C'mon sunrise, step up...
