Aloha means hello and good bye and sadly I'll be doing the later. I was highly disappointed this time around. My first experience was pretty good. I tend to stay away from the BBQ and seafood plates because most places do that pretty well. Last time I went with the BBQ plate and was impressed with the flavors, portions. Good meats, rice, salad and the veggies were freshly blanched. To me it's about the other things. The chicken katsu, the loco moco, spam musubi, etc. I chose the later 2 and was specific in my order to have my eggs over easy. My biggest complaint about Loco Moco is that the egg is fried or over hard. Simply put I like the mixture of gravy and yolk throughout my rice. Over hard like I didn't even tell them. The plate was hefty in the bag so I'm thinking a good amount of rice (2 scoops usually does it). I was wrong, 2 scoops and a ton of cabbage, wilted and soggy, no crispness or flavor to them at all. Macaroni salad was very good though. I like quite a bit of gravy to go along with my expected 2 large scoops of rice. This was not the case My extra gravy request was not done. And the gravy was minimal at best and bland. The rice was good, not extremely hot and steamy, possibly undercooked a little. So now I'm looking at 2 mistakes. Hopefully the beef patties were good. So goes this entire experience. It was more meat loaf than beef patty, the seasoning left a sweet note that I was not expecting. They looked more like the burger patties you get from elementary school lunches. Not that I mind those, they actually tasted alright from what I recall. I would have preferred those. So of the 6 ingredients on my plate, 1 was exceptional and the rest were failures.
Spam musubi actually had a decent rice to meat to wrapper proportions, most places overload with rice. Good old spam, can't mess that 1 up too much.
Pricing was normal. Pictures on the menu looked really good. Decent lunch crowd and decent reviews. Perhaps it's my time spent on the Islands, perhaps it's my time around Islanders or Oceanside's density of good island food that spoils me. Not all Hawaiian food is the same, not all L&L's are the same and when I speak in general about Island food I mean all kinds. Sadly like Mexican food farther from the border I think the Islander food does the same from Oceanside,...
Read moreThis is the first time I went here to this place and I was very disappointed. Me and my boyfriend looking for place to eat and we found this and caught my eyes was the short ribs and chicken katsu so we went here. After ordering food and got our orders I was disappointed see the short ribs looks so dry. The portion of the food is alot. When I tried the short ribs it doesn’t have any flavor at all I was so disappointed and the chicken katsu is fine however when I look at the chicken the chicken looks so old. I know if the chicken is raw or old but this one is old chicken. The chicken katsu has this smell like it’s so fishy. I don’t know if they use the same oil they use to cook the fish or the chicken creating that smell. Never go to this place it’s so bad even the place smells. We spend $47 here and this is the food quality we got how disappointed we are, if i’m able to get a refund I will because it’s not worth it. I can go to other places that has better food flavor and better prices. I even end up throwing my food away because there’s no point of bringing it with me cause I know I won’t eat it. I read all the previous reviews from few years ago and I may say this place looks like still the same they don’t know how to cook and they don’t know how to use good quality fresh meats. Replace the old meats you have in the fridge/freezer and cook fresh once to serve to customers. Do you guys have no money to replace the old meats to new fresh meats or what ? I cook better than you guys and i don’t use old meats and I don’t use the same oil for fish for meats. If i’m able not to give star I WON’T because this place doesn’t deserve star, No Rating at all.
Keep in mind always read the reviews don’t get fooled by how many stars they have. I bet they’re lying about the stars rating they have. They deserve only 1 star or 0 star.
What a SCAM
I HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND THIS...
Read moreAloha Brada's, I've been coming to this store for about 10 years. It's been my standby in Hawaiian BBQ (until I go back or find someplace Betta). It's is one of the better ones on OC. Try the Ribs, there Ono (really good) My Favorite. The Mac salad is good too so don't miss that. The family meal is great for families small parties or just a weekend of leftovers for two or three. Warning..It's addictive....Na...Bra, just kidding it's just good plain Hawaiian style comfort food - Mahalo - H
Local boys tips: Once you go there grab a to go menu, a card and a fridge magnet. (Trust me you will want this later)
Also: after the first time do yourself and others a favor and order takeout via phone with a credit card. Table seating is limited. And there is usually a wait so there's no sense taking a table waiting 15 minutes for take out when there is someone who would like to sit and eat. Just make sure YOU are calling the store YOU have been to. I have been doing this for about 9 years no problem. I was recently dissapointed to hear one their stores in Santa Ana, will not do this because of COMPLAINTS. So please don't message it up for the rest of...
